Tool Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Design, develop, and detail complex jigs, fixtures, gauges, and special tools using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX).
• Lead tooling projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
• Provide daily technical support to the production floor for tooling-related issues, minimising downtime and ensuring smooth operations.
• Identify opportunities for and implement improvements in tooling to enhance productivity, quality, and safety (e.g., reducing cycle time, improving ergonomics).
• Work closely with external tooling vendors for fabrication, providing technical specifications, and conducting quality audits of incoming tools.
• Develop and execute Tool Try-out Reports (TTR), First Article Inspection (FAI), and other validation protocols. Maintain comprehensive tooling documentation.
• Perform root cause analysis on tooling failures and quality defects, implementing effective and permanent corrective actions.
• Act as the tooling expert in cross-functional NPI teams, ensuring manufacturability and designing tools for new products.

Preferred candidate profile

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA etc ).
• Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Experience with tooling materials, press components and their processes.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as pressing, machining, welding, grinding, and assembly.
• Knowledge of lath machine, press machine, roll forming machine, etc.
