Technical Publications Writer

Role Overview: You will be joining the Technical Publications team at Riverbed, where you will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation for enterprise products. Your responsibility will be to transform complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content, which includes user guides, installation guides, deployment guides, hardware documentation, and API/CLI reference manuals. Collaboration with various teams to ensure accuracy and accessibility of documentation will be a key aspect of your role. Key Responsibilities: - Collaborate with engineers, QA, product management, and subject matter experts to research and understand technical product information. - Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive technical documentation for hardware and software, including user manuals, installation guides, configuration guides, and command-line reference manuals. - Implement and champion the docs-as-code paradigm, treating documentation as a version-controlled codebase and using plain text formats like Markdown and Git. - Help architect and optimize a documentation toolchain for automated content generation, leveraging CI/CD pipelines for building and deploying documentation. - Recommend, evaluate, and integrate tools for automation and content analysis to enhance documentation processes. - Ensure documentation accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established style guides and terminology standards. - Create and update diagrams, illustrations, and visual aids to improve user comprehension. - Actively participate in documentation reviews and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement. Qualifications Required: - Proven technical writing experience with a strong portfolio of documentation samples for complex software and/or hardware products. - Familiarity with the docs-as-code workflow, including experience with Git and Markdown. - Experience with automated documentation build processes and static site generators like Sphinx. - Proficiency with content creation tools and readiness to adapt to new technologies and workflows. - Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts into engaging content for diverse audiences. - Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile development environment. - Basic understanding of scripting languages like Python and Bash for automation efforts.
