Role overviewWe are looking for a hands-on Technical Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of automated manufacturing equipment through NPI into stable mass production. You will orchestrate specs, schedules, suppliers and on-site execution (FAT/SAT/commissioning) while interfacing daily with customers and cross-regional engineering teams.
What you will do- Lead global automation NPI projects from concept through delivery, including machine build, factory acceptance and site acceptance, with clear schedules and status updates
- Drive requirements capture and concept reviews to ensure automation concepts fully meet customer specifications by bridging customers and the China engineering/project teams
- Chair regular project meetings, own the integrated plan, milestones and RAID log, surface issues early, communicate root cause and agreed resolutions, and track actions to closure
- Support global supply chain by partnering with purchasing to source vendors and resources in international markets and secure long-lead items
- Own risk identification and mitigation planning to prevent issues or minimise impact, and keep stakeholders aligned with crisp, timely communication
- Oversee FAT/SAT protocols, buy-off criteria and site commissioning plans, coordinate vendor and customer sign-offs and operator training
- Ensure robust documentation (URS/SRS, drawings, software versioning, ECR/ECO), safe-by-design reviews and smooth handover to operations
What you will bring- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field
- 5+ years experience delivering automation projects such as mechanical design/fixtureing, PLC/motion/vision in manufacturing environments
- Solid project leadership across methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and fluency with PM tools such as MS Project, Jira or Smartsheet
- Practical knowledge of automation and control systems including PLCs, vision systems, drives/motion, data tracing/traceability and industrial networks
- Excellent English communication with global customers and cross-functional teams; Mandarin/Chinese language skills are a strong plus
- Willingness to relocate to Malaysia or travel frequently for extended periods to Malaysia and China during critical phases
Nice to have- PMP (or equivalent) certification; Six Sigma, 8D or FTA familiarity
- Experience running FAT/SAT in high-volume electronics, automotive or consumer-goods assembly
- Exposure to ISO 13849 or IEC 62061 (machine safety), CE/UL compliance and EHS best practices
- Vendor development and cost/BOM management experience across APAC
