Team Member - Electrical (Estimation)

Role & responsibilities

Electrical Systems Expertise:

Analyze and estimate electrical project requirements, including power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, cables, and earthing.

Conduct detailed assessments of innovative technologies like GIS switchgear and automated electrical systems for inclusion in cost models.

Review load schedules and system capacities to ensure estimates align with project-specific technical requirements.

Costing Methodologies:

Use zero-based costing to prepare detailed estimates for procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.

Evaluate cost implications of alternate design options or materials to optimize project budgets.

Assist in negotiations by preparing detailed cost breakdowns for electrical components, including rationale for deviations from initial estimates.

Maintain updated records of costing standards for future estimations.

Technical Document Interpretation:

Interpret and validate technical project documents such as BOQs, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and load flow studies to support estimation accuracy.

Work closely with engineering teams to address discrepancies or missing information in the provided documents.

Vendor Interaction:

Collect and analyze quotations from electrical equipment vendors to ensure competitive pricing for items like transformers, panels, and cables.

Maintain relationships with key vendors to stay informed about market trends and product innovations.

Market Intelligence:

Stay updated on market trends in electrical equipment pricing, such as transformers, cables, and smart panels, to ensure informed estimation practices.

Research emerging electrical technologies, including GIS switchgear and energy-efficient solutions, to assess potential cost and operational benefits.

Develop and maintain a repository of market intelligence data, including vendor offerings and regional price fluctuations, to enhance the accuracy of electrical estimations.

Integration Across Disciplines:

Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, and Control & Instrumentation teams to address interfaces, such as shared trenching or integrated control systems.

Provide input on interdependencies that could affect overall project costs and timelines.

Risk Analysis and Mitigation:

Identify potential risks in electrical projects, such as delays in material supply, price fluctuations, or evolving project scopes.

Develop mitigation strategies, including buffer allocations for critical components like transformers or cabling.

Software Proficiency:

Use estimation tools like Candy Software and Primavera for cost modeling and project scheduling.

Regularly update internal databases with historical cost data for electrical components and systems.

Estimation Precision:

Ensure estimates are backed by historical data, vendor inputs, and validated technical specifications.

Perform internal reviews of estimation outputs to minimize errors and improve precision.

Post-Estimation Review:

Analyze discrepancies between estimated and actual costs to identify areas for improvement in future electrical estimations.

Document lessons learned to enhance the accuracy of subsequent projects.

Project Monitoring and Validation:

Track the execution of electrical estimates by collaborating with project teams to validate on-ground implementation.

Conduct site visits or remote reviews to confirm that installations align with estimated specifications.
