Team Member - Mechanical(Estimation)

Role & responsibilities

Mechanical Systems Expertise:

Prepare estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC systems, rotary equipment (pumps, compressors), and static equipment (valves, pipelines).

Evaluate specialized mechanical packages like cranes, coal handling systems, and industrial blowers for accuracy in cost estimation.

Costing Methodologies:

Develop detailed cost estimates using zero-based costing principles, Component-Level Analysis, ensuring precision in material, labor, and overhead costs for mechanical components.

Break down mechanical systems into individual components (e.g., impellers, motors, volute casings) for in-depth cost analysis.

Incorporate costs for equipment procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance to create comprehensive estimates.

Analyze cost implications of different design alternatives or vendor-specified modifications to optimize project costs.

Estimation Precision:

Analyze mechanical estimation inputs by leveraging historical project data, vendor quotations, and technical standards to ensure reliability and accuracy.

Conduct internal reviews of mechanical estimates to detect and rectify errors, enhancing precision and consistency.

Incorporate feedback from executed projects to refine estimation methodologies and improve future outcomes.

Risk Analysis and Mitigation:

Identify risks such as vendor delays, material shortages, and fluctuating steel prices in mechanical projects.

Recommend mitigation measures like vendor diversification or contingency budgeting.

Vendor Interaction:

Engage with vendors to gather quotations for high-value components like rotary equipment and pressure vessels.

Benchmark vendor quotations to ensure alignment with internal cost standards and market trends.

Technical Document Interpretation:

Interpret technical drawings, BOQs, PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams), and technical specifications to ensure alignment with project requirements.

Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve discrepancies or unclear details in mechanical design documents.

Validate technical assumptions made during estimation by referencing project requirements and vendor inputs.

Integration Across Disciplines:

Work with Civil, Electrical, and C&I teams to address cross-disciplinary dependencies in mechanical estimations.

Ensure shared infrastructure like utility systems is accurately costed and allocated.

Software Proficiency:

Utilize tools like Candy, Primavera, and MS Excel for mechanical estimation and scheduling.

Maintain databases of mechanical cost data for future reference and analysis.

Market Intelligence:

Monitor market trends in material pricing, equipment advancements, and vendor capabilities to inform estimation decisions.

Research emerging technologies, such as high-efficiency compressors and modular mechanical systems, for potential cost and efficiency benefits.

Build and maintain a repository of market intelligence for mechanical components to support accurate and competitive estimations.

Post-Estimation Review:

Compare estimated costs with actual project outcomes to identify variances and their root causes in mechanical systems.

Document lessons learned to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.

Project Monitoring and Validation:

Participate in field inspections to verify that mechanical installations align with estimated specifications.

Provide technical support during installation and commissioning to validate assumptions.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience in mechanical system estimation, including HVAC, rotary, and static equipment. Exposure to multidisciplinary project environments.
