Job Description

Job Summary:

The Drone Surveyor will be responsible for conducting aerial surveys of municipal solid waste dumpsites undergoing biomining and remediation. This role involves planning drone missions, capturing high-resolution aerial data, generating 3D topographic models, and calculating volumetric changes for project monitoring and reporting in compliance with Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), CPCB, and state PCB guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Drone Flight Planning & Execution

  • Conduct aerial surveys over legacy waste dumpsites at regular intervals.
  • Plan and execute drone missions using tools like DJI GS Pro, DroneDeploy, or Pix4D Capture.
  • Ensure safety, regulatory compliance (DGCA), and airspace permissions before flight.

2. Data Collection & Analysis

  • Capture orthomosaic images, digital surface models (DSM), and point clouds.
  • Process drone imagery using software (e.g., Pix4D, Agisoft, QGIS) to assess:
    • Waste mound volumes
    • Cut-fill calculations
    • Area under excavation
    • Progress monitoring

3. Project Monitoring & Reporting

  • Prepare periodic progress reports with drone visuals and volume reduction analysis.
  • Overlay pre- and post-biomining images to support contractor billing and compliance.
  • Support third-party monitoring and audit processes with drone-based evidence.

4. Coordination & Site Support

  • Work with GIS engineers, landfill remediation teams, and municipal engineers.
  • Assist in identifying areas for excavation, capping, or leachate management.
  • Provide drone footage for public presentations, investor decks, or regulatory documentation.

5. Maintenance, Logs, and Compliance

  • Maintain drone hardware, batteries, and spare parts.
  • Keep flight logs, geotagging records, and compliance documents as per DGCA norms.
  • Stay updated with DGCA rules (UAS Rules 2021), No Permission No Takeoff (NPNT) protocols.

Skills:

  • Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geomatics, or Remote Sensing.
  • DGCA-certified drone pilot (Micro or Small category preferred).
  • UAV experience in civil or waste management projects.
  • Proficient in Pix4D, DroneDeploy, QGIS/ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with SWM Rules 2016, CPCB Guidelines on Legacy Waste Biomining.
  • Good physical fitness for site-based work and working in waste management zones.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in landfill surveys, scientific capping, or environmental impact studies.
  • Understanding of biomining workflows including RDF, compost, inert segregation.
  • Exposure to reporting formats required by SBM Urban and ULBs.
