1. Surgical Coding
Review operative notes, physician documentation, and medical records.
Assign accurate ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes for surgeries.
Ensure coding is aligned with payer rules, NCCI edits, and compliance guidelines.
2. Documentation Review
Identify missing or unclear documentation and request clarification through coding queries.
Ensure documentation supports all billed services and modifiers.
3. Charge Entry & Billing Support
Enter coded data into billing systems accurately.
Apply appropriate modifiers (e.g., -59, -51, -RT, -LT, -22) based on surgical guidelines.
4. Compliance & Quality
Adhere to CMS, AMA, insurance, and hospital compliance standards.
Participate in audits, quality checks, and maintain high coding accuracy.
5. Communication
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and billing teams to resolve coding-related issues.
Provide feedback to improve documentation quality and coding efficiency.
6. Continuous Learning
Stay updated with annual coding guideline changes (ICD, CPT, HCPCS).
Attend training, workshops, and exams to maintain certifications.
Experience working in multi-specialty surgery coding such as:
General Surgery
Orthopedics
Cardiac
Neuro
GI
Urology
ENT
OB/GYN
