Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack (Java/React)

As a Principal Software Engineer at Poppulo, you will play a crucial role in driving the technical excellence and scalability of the SaaS Employee Communications platform. You will lead the design and development of complex systems, mentor other engineers, and ensure high-quality delivery through deep technical insight. Here is a breakdown of your responsibilities: - Lead the design and development of high-impact systems, translating architectural blueprints into scalable solutions. - Design and implement microservices and APIs with a focus on scalability, observability, and reliability. - Own major features from design through deployment, ensuring performance optimization and cost efficiency. - Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, conduct code reviews, and uphold best coding practices. - Collaborate with Architects, Product Managers, and DevOps to ensure consistent design patterns and high-quality delivery. - Build and optimize services using AWS serverless technologies such as Lambda, ECS, and DynamoDB. - Ensure systems comply with authentication, authorization, and compliance standards. - Identify areas for system and process improvements for scalability and developer productivity. - Advocate for self-learning, research, and innovation within the team. - Use metrics and analytics to anticipate future engineering needs. - Ensure systems are compliant with data protection and privacy standards like GDPR and HIPAA. - Proactively identify solutions, improvements, and tech-debt. Qualifications and Experience required for this role include: - 8+ years of software development experience, with a focus on technical leadership in distributed systems. - Proficiency in Node.js / TypeScript or Java (Spring Boot) with knowledge of React or similar front-end frameworks. - Strong understanding of distributed systems, multi-tenancy, RBAC, and SaaS security principles. - Hands-on experience with Microservices Architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services. - Experience with Observability best practices, event-driven systems, and CI/CD pipelines. - Ability to design for scalability, performance, and fault tolerance in SaaS environments. - Knowledge of GDPR and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK) is a plus. - Excellent communication skills and a passion for continuous learning and technical excellence.
