An OT Staff Nurse (Operating Room Staff Nurse) assists in preparing the operating room for surgery, assists surgeons and anesthesiologists during operations, and provides post-operative care. They maintain a sterile environment, monitor patient vital signs, and document care provided. Additionally, they educate patients and families about post-surgery care. Here's a more detailed breakdown of their responsibilities:Pre-operative: Preparing the operating room: This includes ensuring the room is clean, sterile, and stocked with necessary equipment and supplies. Receiving and preparing patients: This involves ensuring patients are ready for surgery, including assisting with positioning and ensuring proper hygiene and sterility. Managing patient records: Updating medical records and ensuring accuracy of documentation. During surgery: Assisting surgeons and anesthesiologists: This may involve passing instruments, assisting with positioning, and monitoring patient vital signs. Maintaining a sterile environment: Strictly adhering to aseptic techniques and procedures to prevent infection. Monitoring patient condition: Observing for any changes in the patient's condition and reporting them to the surgeon. Replenishing supplies: Keeping track of and replenishing sterile supplies during the operation. Assisting with counts: Participating in sponge and instrument counts before and after surgery. Post-operative: Providing post-operative care: Assisting with patient comfort, wound care, and medication administration. Educating patients and families: Explaining post-operative care instructions and answering questions. Disposing of medical waste: Ensuring proper disposal of medical waste after surgery.
