Job Summary
Supports Global PayPal Corporate Infrastructure systems. Design, support and optimize the infrastructure. Administer and support Windows, Linux, Virtualization, Azure Clustering and Azure Cloud Operations.
The team is dispersed globally across North America, Ireland, India and Shanghai. The team provides 24x7 on-call support with a shared pager rotation. The team regularly engages in cross-team training to reduce knowledge silos to promote professional growth and career development.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee load balancers, Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) equipment, Content Delivery Network (CDN) platforms, and troubleshoot client/server issues.
- Handle proactive and reactive outages, work with vendors, and take ownership of network incidents, escalations, and root cause analysis.
- Lead backbone network design and architecture for on-premises and public cloud migration, and build hybrid connectivity solutions.
- Work with business unit leadership, product managers, and customers to develop project objectives, timelines, and feature requirements.
- Support network system availability, manage network capacity, and ensure compliance with Information Security standards.
- Deploy equipment, manage SSL certificate hosting and renewal, and build infrastructure for data centers and cloud environments.
- Implement and continually improve operational procedures, systems, and network engineering best practices.
- Offer on-call support, monitor infrastructure and hosted services, and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Manage and influence global teams, provide guidance and support, and mentor team members in areas of expertise.
- Communicate incident impacts, risks, and mitigation plans to executives, document incident information, and create network engineering documentation and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualification
Your day to day
- Serve as an SME for VMware and Nutanix virtualization, handling deployment, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
- Deploy and manage VMware ESXi and vSAN and Nutanix HCI across multiple availability zones.
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Windows Server infrastructure with a focus on Windows Clustering and high availability.
- Manage and optimize Azure IaaS environments, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Support and troubleshoot enterprise networking, network security (NetSec), storage, and DNS related issues for systems at scale.
- Automate infrastructure tasks using Ansible, Terraform, and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Perl, or PHP).
- Coordinate with global teams across different time zones, ensuring 24/7 operational reliability.
- Each day is invariably different as a variety of tasks and challenges come up on a regular basis.
- You will collaborate closely with our internal business partners to solve RTB tasks and other support teams when encountering new, unforeseen issues.
- Work with Solutions Engineering and Application Owners to apply accepted deployment standards to properly onboard, architect and deploy applications to operate in a reliable fashion.
What do you need to bring
- A self-motivated team player who thrives in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment
- 7-10 years experience in Enterprise infrastructure support
- Extensive knowledge of VMware and Nutanix virtualization technologies.
- Proficiency in networking, security, storage, and DNS at an enterprise scale.
- Scripting and automation skills with Ansible, Terraform, Bash, PowerShell, Perl, or PHP.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document processes clearly.
