As a Senior Java Backend Engineer with 5+ years of experience, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of backend services for a large-scale data ingestion, processing, and delivery platform. Your role will involve leveraging deep technical expertise and architectural thinking to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, scalable solutions. Key Responsibilities: - Architecture & Design - Lead backend architecture, APIs, and microservices using Java and Spring Boot. - Define data flow, storage, and integration across various technologies such as PostgreSQL, Pinecone, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, S3, and warehouses. - Enforce coding standards, API contracts, and best practices. - Backend Development - Build and optimize REST/GraphQL APIs. - Implement business logic for reports, notifications, search, and content delivery. - Integrate external data sources and ETL pipelines. - Data & Search - Optimize PostgreSQL/Elasticsearch queries for large datasets. - Collaborate with data engineers on ETL performance. - Scalability & Performance - Resolve API, query, and pipeline bottlenecks. - Implement caching, async processing, and distributed patterns. - Ensure availability, fault tolerance, and recovery readiness. - Cloud & DevOps - Partner with DevOps on CI/CD, containerization, and AWS infrastructure. - Optimize AWS cost and performance. - Leadership - Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and guidance. - Support hiring efforts through technical interviews. Required Qualifications: - 5+ years of backend development experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices. - Strong in REST API design with knowledge of GraphQL and async processing (Kafka/RabbitMQ/AWS SQS). - Advanced skills in PostgreSQL (optimization, indexing, partitioning) and NoSQL (DynamoDB). - Expertise in Elasticsearch (indexing, analyzers, search tuning) with exposure to Pinecone/vector databases being a plus. - Solid experience with AWS services (S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, CloudWatch) and Kubernetes. - Experience in ETL design/optimization and data warehousing concepts. - Proven track record of delivering scalable, production systems with strong debugging, profiling, and Agile experience.
