Job Description

The Senior Engineering Manager for the WCP RDE group is directly responsible for ensuring that all WCP (Well Completions Products Completions, Liner Hangers, Cementation) products and services meet the required design and quality standards set forth by the product line group. The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for monitoring the activities related to the design and development of new technology as well as maintaining existing technology. The Senior Engineering Manager will liaison with GBU, Operations and Engineering groups and stakeholders to support, maintain, update and create technology strategies, and market strategies for entire Completion products, services, and technology. The Senior Engineering Manager works closely with the product line engineering groups to maintain, update and create technology strategies, and market strategies for WCP products and can serve as the region or department head for the local engineering group.

Role & responsibilities

Engineering (RDE):

  • Management of technical personnel within local Engineering department.
  • Manage and coordinate activities of the Engineering Department regarding design, manufacturing and testing of products at a global and regional level.
  • Provide directions to engineering managers and project teams on technical projects including selection, technology and design on multiple products and / or technologies.
  • Plan and formulate aspects of engineering work, such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and manpower requirements.
  • Review and analyze proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditure of resources.
  • Approve and submit proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocate funds from department budget.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, to inform management of status of each project.
  • Prepare, review and approve detailed design proposals and engineering cost estimates for development of existing products and technologies.
  • Prepare, review and approve design verification and validation outputs for detailed design review.
  • Identify any opportunities for improvement (OFI) regarding design, planning and manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze the field performance of new Products, maintaining ownership of these products until confirmation that full-service functionality has been achieved.
  • Participate in the investigation and review of field and problem job reports Attend customer design reviews or sales meetings for new and existing products as required. Provide technical support to field operations and other company officials.
  • Assess cost implications of NCR, field incidents, design changes, conceptual design and responsible for informing projected costs to company stakeholders.
  • With assistance of HR, recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.
  • Represent the business locally and internationally. Liaise with clients and vendors in the specification of potential New Product developments Implement modifications to existing products to meet internal or external customer needs.
  • Development and maintenance of test procedures, carrying out appropriate liaison with the Assembly / Test Technician on testing programs.
  • Provide engineering support to operational staff during field runs, ensuring the highest level of Customer Service Quality is maintained throughout.
  • Have ability for checking and/or approval of manufacturing drawings, design calculations, test reports and design layouts.
  • Manage and update technical documents to create a high-quality technical interface for use by other departments.
  • Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and company with all requirements of the Quality System Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.
  • Must understand, comply with and enforce all safety rules and company policies.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Education:

    Bachelors degree in engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 18 years of relevant engineering experience in product design and development, preferably in oilfield services or industrial equipment.

  • Working knowledge of leading a Completion technology program along strong understanding of industry, statutory, and regulatory specifications,

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Creo, Pro/E), PLM systems (e.g., Windchill).

  • Excellent management skills such as holding personnel reviews, organized work, scheduling and costing with accuracy

  • Exhibit leadership and make effective, reliable and appropriate decisions and judgments without supervision or assistance.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, planning, organizational and team skills, mentoring training and presentation skills.
  • Must have ability to effectively plan, control and take responsibility for groups results.
  • Must have sound knowledge of metallic and elastomer materials technology

  • Must have proven technical problem-solving ability.
  • Must have knowledge of applicable design standards (API / ISO / etc).

  • Must be capable of working under own initiative with a minimal reliance on supervision.
  • Familiar with the intellectual property (IP) process and procedures.
  • Communication:

    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and to present project updates to senior management clearly and confidently. Fluent in English (written and spoken); ability to communicate across levels of an organization.
  • Travel:

    Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 25-50%) to company sites, manufacturing facilities, or client locations as required for project meetings, system testing, or troubleshooting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced Education:

    Masters or Ph.D. degree in Engineering or a related technical field. Mechanical is preferred.
  • Industry Experience:

    Familiarity with downhole completion tools, well completion equipment, OFS Field operations, WCP product manufacturing processes, API Qualification requirements, would be beneficial.
  • Process & Quality Systems:

    Experience with quality frameworks and methodologies such as ISO 9001, API requirements in an engineering context. Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Engineering, or continuous improvement programs in product development is desirable.
  • Innovation & Patents:

    A record of innovation evidenced by patents, technical publications, or successful implementation of new technologies in products is valued.
