Sr. Engineer, Instrumentation & SCADA

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

SCADA System Oversight:

• Maintain SCADA systems for water treatment plants, pumping stations, and distribution networks.
• Monitor real-time data for flow, pressure, turbidity, chlorine levels, etc., and escalate abnormalities.
• Ensure proper communication between RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA servers.
• Coordinate with IT teams on network health, remote access, data backups, and cybersecurity compliance.

Instrumentation:

• Oversee installation, calibration, and maintenance of all field instruments such as: Electromagnetic and ultrasonic flowmeters, Pressure transmitters, Level sensors, pH, turbidity, and chlorine analysers.
• Ensure data accuracy and data validation.

Commissioning:

• Assist in design, configuration, and commissioning of SCADA and instrumentation systems during water project execution.
• Review technical drawings, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
• Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and field loop checks.

Compliance:

• Implement preventive maintenance schedules for all instrumentation and automation equipment.
• Maintain detailed records of calibration, service reports, and compliance documents.
• Ensure systems meet local and national regulatory standards for water quality monitoring and reporting.

Team Leadership & Coordination:

• Supervise and mentor instrumentation technicians and junior engineers.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams for system integration and operational support.

Train plant operators and maintenance staff in basic SCADA and instrumentation handling.

Preferred candidate profile

Key Technical Skills:

• PLCs: Schneider, Mitsubishi, Siemens, CompactLogix
• Communication : Modbus TCP/RTU, Profibus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, DNP3
• Software: AutoCAD, MS Excel, and basic Power BI for trend analysis

Soft Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Good leadership and communication skills
• Capability to work in multidisciplinary teams and under field conditions

Knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) best practices in water utilities.
