NEC Power BlockPosition: Shift Superintendent (MRS) Key Role
- Overall in-charge of operation in shifts.
- Responsible for power system operation, achieving highest reliability of power system in addition to meeting required parameters and quality.
- Responsible for power distribution and clearance to downstream units/substations.
- Responsible for safe energization and shut down of equipment.
- Responsible for safe and reliable operation of EHV & HV system as per laid down procedures and Technical Authority Limit (TAL).
- Supervise jobs related to all equipment, monitor and ensure their performance for reliable, optimum, and safe operation.
- Responsible for handling plant emergencies.
- Prepare, handover, and coordinate maintenance activities.
- Responsible for carrying out field/panel activities related to plant/equipment safe energization and shut down, synchronisation and de-synchronisation with grid/other power network.
- Ensure strict compliance of all HSEF procedures.
- Coordinate with JMD Generating stations & CTU Control Room.
- Ensure 220kV & 33kV power distribution system and equipment operation within SOC.
Functions
- Operate the power system with the highest reliability.
- Synchronising operation with other power systems/grid power as per requirement (operation of 220kV GIS switchgear).
- Act in consultation with Production Manager/SS of CTU for power system reliability.
- Service transformers OLTC operation to maintain grid power factor and voltage.
- Understand and raise bypass requests of trip and interlocks as per procedures and maintain records.
- Associate in analysis of power distribution failures with other departments and correlate analysis with operating parameters.
- Review important power system study reports; monitor plant operation with respect to critical parameters (load flow, short circuit, power system protection setting report).
- Observe trends of important parameters and take corrective actions for deviations to maintain quality and reliability.
- Monitor working on SCADA panel, F&G panel, manual synchronizing panel, disturbance recorder, etc., and control all parameters.
- Monitor and record bypass of trip and interlocks as per procedures.
- Ensure minimum downtime of power system and all electrical equipment.

Technical
- Operation of power distribution system for the complete plant along with single line diagram.
- Working of EHV switchgears (400kV/220kV/33kV) GIS, transformers, etc.
- Downstream plants power distribution and consumption pattern along with location of specific load centers.
- Electrical operation of the power system including transformer and GIS energization, synchronization with other power entities, shut down and isolation.
- Emergencies in plant arising from tripping/failure of equipment/systems including load shedding and fire.
- Power distribution plan to downstream plants and execution of the same.
- Alarm, trip points and circuit interlocks testing procedures.
- Protection relay functions, their settings, data viewing and checking procedures.
- Electrical SOP of equipment pertaining to start up, shutdown, changeover and isolation.
- Unit operations and processes employed in different areas of Power Complex.
- Knowledge of SCADA/EDMS, its different functions and network configuration, controller description and their in-built logics such as OLTC operation, required for operation including all types of HT/AC motors/synchronous motors, DC machines, power and distribution transformers, instrument transformers, HT panel, various circuit breakers and isolators, UPS, battery chargers and battery systems, control, process-instrumentation interlock and protection of all above equipment, set points and details of protective systems.
- Control and protection logic of GIS and transformers. Circuit diagram of various control circuits.
- Testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the above electrical equipment.
- Emergency power system operation.
- Logic/circuit diagrams, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
- Cable, joints, and termination.
- Statutory bodies and rules, e.g., Indian electricity rules. Electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
