We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Administrator to join our growing IT team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux system administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation. You will be responsible for managing and supporting Linux-based infrastructure, ensuring optimal system performance, security, and reliability. As a Senior Linux Administrator, you will collaborate closely with other teams to support our critical systems and contribute to the overall IT strategy. Key Responsibilities: System Administration Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.) in a production environment. Manage server resources, ensure system stability, and resolve issues related to hardware, networking, or software. Monitor system performance and health using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus, and take proactive steps to ensure uptime. Implement and maintain Linux-based services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, Samba, Apache, Nginx, MySQL, and other critical services. Automation & Scripting Develop, implement, and maintain automation scripts to manage system configurations, patching, and deployments. Utilize scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ansible to automate tasks and streamline operations. Security & Compliance Apply security patches, perform vulnerability assessments, and manage security configurations for Linux servers. Ensure that all systems are in compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Manage firewall configurations, SELinux, user permissions, and SSH configurations. Troubleshooting & Support Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution of system issues, including performance tuning, system resource optimization, and network configuration. Assist in root cause analysis of incidents and provide detailed documentation for future resolution. Backup & Recovery Implement and manage backup solutions to ensure the integrity and availability of critical data. Develop and regularly test disaster recovery plans to ensure minimal downtime and data loss. Collaboration & Mentorship Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new systems or improve existing infrastructure. Mentor junior administrators and provide guidance on best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and system management. Qualifications: Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 5+ years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.). Experience with enterprise-level infrastructure and managing large-scale Linux environments. Technical Skills In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems, system internals, file systems, and networking. Strong experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef. Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. Expertise in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl. Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Prometheus, or Zabbix. Security & Networking Strong understanding of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and system security concepts. Experience with security tools (SELinux, iptables, auditd) and practices like system hardening, vulnerability scanning, and compliance frameworks. Soft Skills Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Preferred Qualifications: Linux certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Linux+, or similar. Familiarity with configuration management tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.). Knowledge of monitoring and logging solutions like ELK stack, Grafana, and Fluentd.
