Job Description

About the Role

We are hiring a backend Java Engineer with strong experience in US brokerage tax systems, including 1099 reporting, tax withholding, and cost-basis/tax-lot processing. The role involves building and enhancing core clearing & reporting components that ensure accurate IRS and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop backend services for:
1099 reporting (dividends, interest, gains/losses, misc. income)
Federal & state tax withholding (backup, NRA, FATCA)
Cost basis, tax-lot, wash sale, and corporate action impacts
Build scalable trade-processing pipelines handling high-volume daily transactions.
Integrate with clearing, settlement, and regulatory reporting systems.
Ensure data accuracy for IRS, FINRA, SEC reporting obligations.
Collaborate with product, tax operations, and compliance teams.
Optimize legacy tax workflows and migrate to modern microservices architecture.

Required Skills

5-10 years of Java backend development experience.
Strong understanding of: 1099 reporting (INT, DIV, B, MISC, OID)
Tax withholding workflows
Cost basis & tax lot management
Corporate actions and their tax implications
Experience with trade lifecycle: execution clearing settlement.
Knowledge of SQL, messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and distributed systems.

Preferred Skills

Exposure to regulatory reporting (IRS, FINRA, CAT, etc).
Familiarity with US broker-dealer operations
