Senior Digital Innovation Engineer - Data Science

As a Data Scientist at Buckman, a global specialty chemical company headquartered in Memphis, TN, USA, you will play a crucial role in leading the development of a Data Science program. You will collaborate closely with Buckman stakeholders to leverage deep industry knowledge across various sectors such as paper, water, leather, and performance chemicals. Your responsibilities will include formulating a data strategy for the organization, encompassing data collection, creation of a data science project portfolio, collaboration with external partners, and enhancing internal capabilities through strategic hiring. Moreover, a significant aspect of your role will involve engaging with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to drive proofs of concept projects that showcase the innovative application of data science in addressing longstanding challenges in unique ways. Given the initial lack of a substantial internal team, your individual expertise, comprehensive knowledge of data science, and ability to collaborate with external entities will be essential for achieving success. In addition to tackling data science challenges, you will closely collaborate with a diverse team comprising sensor scientists, software engineers, network engineers, mechanical/electrical engineers, and chemical engineers in developing and implementing IoT solutions. The ideal candidate for this role should hold a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science, along with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in an analytical role involving data extraction, analysis, and visualization. Preferred qualifications include a Master's or PhD degree in a quantitative field, experience in the specialty chemicals sector or similar industries, background in engineering (especially Chemical Engineering), experience in initiating data science programs, working with global stakeholders, and familiarity with start-up environments, particularly in IoT companies. Proficiency in quantitative modeling tools and statistical analysis is also desirable.
