Job Summary

Senior Data Analyst / Backend Engineer

remote, contract-based environment

Key Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and optimize

  PostgreSQL databases

  , including schemas, indexes, views, functions, and stored procedures.
• Write, tune, and maintain

  advanced SQL queries

  (CTEs, window functions, subqueries) to analyze and transform large datasets.
• Perform

  SQL-driven analysis on data sourced from Microsoft Excel

  , including importing, validating, normalizing, and preparing data for reporting and visualization.
• Develop and maintain

  Java-based backend components

  supporting data processing, business logic, and system integrations.
• Create

  data visualizations and analytical outputs

  using Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, charts) driven by SQL query results.
• Identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and data quality issues, and present insights clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
  
• Ensure data integrity, consistency, and performance across transactional and analytical systems.
  
• Collaborate with product managers, data teams, and engineering stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  
• Lead troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis for data and backend issues in production environments.
  
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to best practices in SQL optimization, backend design, and data governance.
  
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for data models, SQL logic, Excel-based reporting workflows, and backend processes.
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience

  in backend engineering, data analytics, or data-centric roles.
• Strong hands-on expertise with

  PostgreSQL

  , including query optimization and performance tuning.

• Advanced SQL proficiency

  , including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and indexing strategies.
• Proven experience using

  SQL to analyze and visualize data originating from Microsoft Excel

  .
• Strong working knowledge of

  Microsoft Excel

  for data analysis and visualization (Pivot Tables, Power Query, advanced formulas, charts).
• Solid

  Java development experience

  for backend systems and data processing.
• Strong understanding of

  relational database design

  and data modeling principles.
• Ability to work independently in a

  remote, contract-based role

  .
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Experience with reporting or BI tools such as

  Power BI or Tableau

  .
• Exposure to

  ETL processes, data pipelines

  , and batch or stream processing.
• Experience with

  cloud platforms

  such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with

  Agile / Scrum
