Scientific Lead

As a Scientific Lead at Velsera, you will report to the Manager KB and leverage your strong molecular biology and cancer biology background to curate, interpret, and represent data from various sources into logical rules that form the core of the clinical genomics knowledgebase. **Key Responsibilities:** - Demonstrate clear understanding of therapies, drug mechanisms of action, oncology disease biology, biomarkers/mutations, and the construction of KB rules. - Analyze clinical recommendations for oncology gene panels and understand disease ontologies to construct custom disease ontologies based on disease pathology and cellular subtypes. - Curate clinical content sources and ensure high-quality data delivery, acting as a reviewer of the curated content and contributing to curation strategies. - Create SOPs and workflows for clinical content curation, identify gaps in processes, propose solutions, and optimize content curation workflow using upcoming technologies. - Collaborate with the engineering team for software automation of scientific decision algorithms and provide mentorship to juniors on clinical content strategies. - Initiate and engage in clear communications within and across teams, develop technical documentation, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data. - Provide guidance in decision-making, coach the team on scientific decisions, prioritize tasks, and identify areas for increased efficiency through automation. - Design and execute training workflows, conduct training sessions, identify training needs, and contribute to solving problems or small projects within the team. **Qualifications Required:** - Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, or related field with 4+ years of postdoc or work experience, or a Master's degree in relevant fields with 8+ years of work experience. - Understanding of human genetic and molecular diseases, genomic databases, cancer biology, bioinformatics analysis, and genetic variant details. - Previous experience in oncogenomic diagnostic laboratories or as an experimental scientist is beneficial. - Proficiency in open-source bioinformatics tools and variant databases, personal initiative, teamwork skills, and excellent communication abilities.
