A sanctions screening analyst is responsible for ensuring a company complies with sanctions regulations by reviewing customer, transaction, and entity data against global lists such as the UN, OFAC, and EU sanctions lists to identify and address potential matches. Their daily activities include analyzing alerts from screening systems, escalating complex cases, keeping audit records, and working with other departments to prevent financial crimes and maintain regulatory compliance. Important skills for this role include analytical abilities, attention to detail, strong communication, and a solid understanding of regulations. Key Responsibilities Review & Resolve Alerts: Analyze and resolve false positives from automated screening systems, investigate possible matches, and document findings. Sanctions List Management: Stay updated on relevant sanctions lists and ensure they are current in the screening system. Escalation: Forward potential true matches and suspicious activities to senior compliance staff or management for further review. Maintain Compliance: Follow sanctions screening procedures and regulatory requirements to help prevent illegal transactions. Data Analysis & System Improvement: Offer feedback to improve screening methods, reduce false positives, and enhance the customer experience. Collaboration: Work with legal, risk, and operations teams to resolve issues and promote compliance best practices. Essential Skills & Qualifications Analytical & Critical Thinking: Ability to interpret data, draw logical conclusions, and make accurate decisions. Attention to Detail: Careful review of information and maintaining accuracy. Knowledge of Regulations: Understanding of sanctions regulations, AML, and CFT frameworks. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal skills for clear reporting and collaboration. Technical Skills: Experience with sanctions screening systems and data analysis tools. Work Ethic: Capable of managing multiple cases, working under pressure, and handling challenging situations responsibly.
