As a Specialist Service Engineering (Mechanical) in the Global Shared Service department in Chennai, India, your role will be crucial in supporting technical experts in resolving Service Now tasks, particularly main bearing related tasks. You will also be responsible for authoring documents for MSE owned documents in Teamcenter and Windchill, maintaining failed component information, and updating Management about potential serial defects. Your contribution is vital for the efficient functioning of Service Engineering Teams. This role will involve handling unexpected situations and time-sensitive tasks on a daily basis. Key Responsibilities: - Collaborate with a globally responsible team of technical experts in Global Service Engineering - Act as a focal point of contact for technical issues between local and central business units - Assign tasks along the technical support process - Gather information on the performance of mechanical components in wind turbines - Identify and report potential serial issues - Evaluate risk potential, budget, and schedule activities related to major non-conformities - Support local business units in developing sustainable solutions for mechanical problems in wind turbine drive trains - Create repair and inspection instructions for mechanical component assemblies - Define, implement, and establish service processes for mechanical assemblies - Enhance internal standards and processes while ensuring knowledge transfer between departments and locations Qualifications Required: - Minimum 6-8 years of experience in Mechanical drive trains and roller bearings, preferably in the wind industry - Project coordination experience or similar role - Strong analytical and data manipulation skills in Excel - Excellent organizational and time management skills - Strong multitasking abilities - Good stakeholder management, communication, and interpersonal skills - Technical background understanding - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering - Excellent communication skills - Ability to work independently - Proficiency in Teamcenter PLM, Windchill PLM, SAP - Troubleshooting knowledge The company values individuals who are detail-oriented, organized, good team players, adaptable to change, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Role Summary The Bearing Commodity Engineer is responsible for the Supplier qualification, technical evaluation, and supplier development of bearing components across multiple platforms. This role bridges engineering and procurement to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and supply continuity for bearing commodities. Basic Qualifications B.E/B. Tech Mechanical engineering or an equivalent technical field from an accredited university or college with 8-12 years of experience in Supplier development Quality Management Systems (QMS): ISO 9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001 other relevant quality standards. Familiarity with GD&T, APQP, PPAP standards. Technical Knowledge: Responsible for the development of Bearing, Standard Catalog and machined parts based on the specified drawings, international standards, work Norms and specifications in coordination with the Global Commodity Team. Good Knowledge in bearing manufacturing process. Evaluate bearing designs, specifications, and manufacturing processes Experience with forging, machining, heat treatment, and surface finishing of bearing components. Strong understanding of bearing failure modes, lubrication, and life calculations. Validate supplier testing capabilities (e.g., vibration analysis, noise testing, endurance rigs) Able to define process for qualification for above bearing and catalog parts at existing and new suppliers., for example: testing/qualifying criteria including process, and manufacturing ability assessment's, Supplier selection, qualification, evaluation, development, etc. considering the required drawings, technical standards and Work Norms. Planning and realization of VDA 6.3. process audits at the supplier and technical discussions, Release of Supplier, and maintaining the supplier, for continuous improvement. Knowledge of global bearing suppliers and sourcing trends Should have good knowledge in Non-Destructive Testing like UT, MPT & PT, especially for bearing components Roles and Responsibilities Supplier Qualification: Perform audits (Process, Product, Quality systems, Preassessment/Compliance) to assure that the suppliers have an effective process, product acceptance standard implemented. Identify & communicate best practices/risks. Trigger and follow through on supplier improvement programs. Supplier Inspections: Conduct or supervise physical inspections of Bearing parts. Provide technical guidance to suppliers to assure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications. Co-ordinate with internal stakeholders and customers to ensure timely inspection, documentation, and clearance of the offered items to meet project deliverables. Non-Conformity Management: For all defects, either in-process at suppliers works, establish a robust action plan to lead/support the RCA, CAPA and containment actions to minimize impact & prevent reoccurrence. Manage Supplier Deviation Request (SDR) activities as owner of the process and the first technical interface between the suppliers. Work closely with Sourcing, Quality and Engineering teams to be proactive in supplier selection. A technical discussion as well as the detailed explanation of the technical terms of delivery, work standards and drawings can be done with the supplier if required. The use of the first samples is defined in the project.
