Job Description

1. Job Summary

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical care to patients admitted in the wards, ensuring timely clinical assessment, monitoring, documentation, and coordination with consultants and nursing staff for effective patient management.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Patient Care

  • Conduct initial assessment and daily clinical rounds of all admitted patients.
  • Monitor patient vitals, progress, and response to treatment.
  • Carry out treatment plans as advised by the consultant doctor.
  • Provide immediate medical attention during patient emergencies.
  • Maintain continuous supervision of critically ill patients until the consultant arrives.

B. Clinical Procedures

  • Perform necessary procedures such as IV cannulation, Ryles tube insertion, catheterization, blood sample collection, etc.
  • Assist consultants during bedside procedures.
  • Ensure proper administration of medications and treatments.

C. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient case sheets.
  • Update treatment charts, progress notes, and medication orders.
  • Communicate all critical changes in patient condition to consultants and nursing staff.
  • Prepare discharge summaries as per consultant’s instructions.

D. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with nursing staff, ward in-charge, and other departments (pharmacy, lab, radiology) to ensure smooth patient care.
  • Attend handover meetings and provide proper shift-to-shift communication.
  • Follow hospital protocols, SOPs, and NABH guidelines.

E. Emergency Management

  • Attend all ward emergencies and provide stabilizing management.
  • Assist in Code Blue/Code Red as required.
  • Ensure proper escalation of emergency cases to consultants.

F. Compliance

  • Adhere to hospital policies related to patient safety, infection control, and medical ethics.
  • Participate in audits, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.

3. Qualifications & Experience

  • MBBS degree from a recognized university.
  • Valid registration with Medical Council (MCI / State Council).
  • 0–3 years of experience in ward/critical care preferred.

4. Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and patient-care skills.
  • Good communication and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to handle medical emergencies.
  • Professional, empathetic, and ethical approach.
  • Ability to work in shifts.
