Koh-mo-reh-bee means sunlight filtered through tree leaves in Japanese. Founded in 2023 by Rishabh Lalani, Kohmorehbee is driven by the vision to provide hope, opportunities, and assistance to individuals addressing society's most pressing issues. The philanthropic and non-profit sector in India is fragmented, leading to higher costs for information and knowledge. This results in only those with established networks and access being able to secure resources. Likewise, individuals with resources tend to donate repeatedly to a few organizations. Our goal is to shift this existing situation, focusing on those working on the periphery to ultimately benefit the entire sector.

Responsibilities

• The role involves

  mapping potential funders and partners

  across the non-profit, corporate, foundation, and philanthropic landscapes.
• The selected individual should have sharp skills to gather, analyse, and synthesise data on donors, philanthropy, and development programs using qualitative and quantitative research methods

Requirements

• Prior experience (3+ years) in secondary and primary research

  in the development or philanthropy sector required.
• Demonstrated interest in philanthropy or social sector and comfort

  working with Excel/Google Sheets

  and digital research tools.
• Precise, organized, and able to deliver accurate outputs under deadlines with minimal supervision

Location

Preference is for someone based in Jaipur or Delhi (secondary). Remote work will be considered for those who demonstrate excellence in the assignment submission.

Pay will be commensurate with market standards and will be calculated on last drawn salary. This is a one year contract with potential for further renewal based on performance.

Assignment Brief

Scenario

An India-based NGO working on disaster resilience is looking to grow its partnerships and funding base.  The NGO wants to identify and secure partnerships and funding for the following:

1. Immediate disaster relief especially in the Himalayan region
2. Funders who support systemic and long-term approach beyond immediate relief
3. Disaster education and capacity building 

The Task

research note (3 pages or less)

1. Funding trends covering HNIs, CSR and family foundations that should inform fundraising practices for the organization.
2. Gaps based on the insights that emerge from the trends.
3. Implications for the organization given the trends and gaps youve observed.

Information that will be useful

• Insights into focus areas, funding principles, and strategic priorities
• Examples of flagship projects, social media posts and other utterances that point to interest
• Examples of modes of engagement (e.g., direct funding, consortium partnership, grants, technical support) that specific kinds of funders choose
• Data and numbers backing up all findings
• Concrete examples (project names, grants, collaborations, etc.) with reference to online sources

Information that will NOT be useful

• What Indias top 50 donors (CSR and philanthropic individuals like Mukesh Ambani, Shiv Nadar, Aditya Birla Group, Bajaj etc.) are doing in their philanthropy?
• Generic mention of projects and activities without any insight into the implications
• Unformatted documents that are dense and not easy to understand.

• Demonstrating use of excel and use of graphs, charts and visuals
• Analytical and comparative insight
• Clarity and organization of the submission
