Role Overview: As a Senior Medical Data Scientist at Amgen, you will be a crucial part of the Global Medical Affairs team. Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement data science solutions utilizing advanced statistical methods, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques. Key Responsibilities: - Design and execute high-impact projects addressing intricate medical inquiries in various therapeutic areas by employing advanced data science methodologies such as predictive modeling, NLP, LLMs, and machine learning. - Lead end-to-end data science initiatives using both structured and unstructured datasets, leveraging tools like Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI. - Implement test-and-learn strategies, including causal inference methods and advanced A/B testing, ensuring methodological rigor and actionable insights. - Collaborate with business stakeholders to define project scopes, conduct medical data science projects, and translate complex data into actionable insights for optimizing field medical activities. - Develop and optimize scalable data pipelines in coordination with engineering teams, ensuring reproducibility, robustness, and compliance in deployment workflows. - Translate intricate model outputs into clear and actionable recommendations, delivering impactful presentations, reports, and visualizations to senior leadership teams. - Act as a subject matter expert in data science, influencing design decisions and methodology choices within the Medical Data & Analytics team. - Stay updated on emerging technologies, such as Generative AI and LLMs, and mentor peers to enhance Amgen's data science capabilities. - Uphold best practices in reproducibility, documentation, version control, and model governance across teams. Qualifications Required: - PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in data analytics or data science; OR, - Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with at least 5 years of experience in data analytics or data science; OR, - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in data analytics or data science. - Proficiency in data science, statistics, machine learning, or advanced analytics, with practical application of statistical techniques like hypothesis testing, regression analysis, clustering, and classification. - Hands-on experience in data science, statistical modeling, machine learning, NLP, or related fields, with a proven track record of delivering end-to-end solutions. - Advanced programming skills in SQL and Python (knowledge of R is a plus) and familiarity with working in platforms like Databricks. - Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey insights derived from data.
