Principal Data Engineer (Associate Director)

The role of a Principal Data Engineer (Associate Director) is a permanent position based in Bangalore within the ISS department at Fidelity. As a part of the ISS Data Platform Team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures to facilitate data ingestion, integration, and analytics. You will lead a team of senior and junior developers, providing mentorship and guidance while collaborating with enterprise architects, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and drive technical innovation within the department. Your key responsibilities will include taking ownership of technical delivery, leading a subsection of the wider data platform, and ensuring code reusability, quality, and developer productivity are maximized. You will be expected to challenge the status quo by implementing the latest data engineering practices and techniques. Additionally, you will be required to leverage cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks, have expertise in the AWS ecosystem, particularly Lambda, EMR, MSK, Glue, and S3, and be proficient in Python, SQL, and CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical skills in designing event-based or streaming data architectures using tools like Kafka, implementing data access controls for regulatory compliance, and using both RDBMS and NoSQL offerings. Experience with CDC ingestion, orchestration tools like Airflow, and containerization technologies is desirable. Strong soft skills in problem-solving, strategic communication, and project management are crucial for this role.
