Design of press tools including blanking, piercing, forming, drawing, progressive, compound , and combination dies . Develop complete 2D & 3D CAD designs for tools and die sets using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, or Catia . Hands-on rework and modification of existing tools based on trial feedback and product changes. Coordinate with toolroom, machinists, die makers, and CNC operators to ensure proper tool fabrication. Work closely with production and maintenance teams to improve tool life and reduce breakdowns. Manage tool tryouts , analyze defects (burrs, wrinkles, spring-back), and implement corrections. Develop and maintain detailed tool drawings, BOMs, and die maintenance documentation . Collaborate with vendors and tool manufacturers to ensure technical clarity and quality control. Knowledge of sheet metal materials (CRCA, SS, Al, brass, HR, etc.), material grades , and their forming characteristics. Understanding and use of spinning process parameters and tooling requirements (for conical or cylindrical parts). Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturability) studies and cost optimization of tooling projects. 4-5 years of experience in press tool design and manufacturing, preferably in an in-house toolroom or press shop. Deep knowledge of mechanical press machines , hydraulic presses, and their operation parameters. Proven experience in designing press tools from scratch and revising old tooling for improvement. Practical understanding of die clearances, punch-die alignment, tool hardening , and die life estimation . Familiar with tool steels (D2, D3, HCHCr, OHNS), carbide , and heat treatment processes. Good grasp of sheet metal standards (IS / ASTM), tolerances, and gauge charts. Strong in problem-solving, root cause analysis , and preventive actions related to tool failures. Able to work independently and manage projects with minimum supervision . . Experience with CNC wire cut programming / EDM / VMC process . Knowledge of spinning tool design and form tool development. Exposure to ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 documentation and quality audits. Familiarity with reverse engineering tools (3D scanning, CMM).
