Pre-editor - Books and Journals

Role & responsibilities

1) Organize and structure the entire journal according to the designated style sheet.

2) Format and sequence references properly, cross-check them against in-text citations, and validate each reference for accuracy.

3) Identify and address any uncited references, unlisted tables or figures, as well as missing bibliographic references and footnotes.

4) Raise queries to resolve mismatched or inconsistent elements within the manuscript.

5) Process and manage manuscripts in MS Word format efficiently.

6) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of style manuals, including Chicago, APA (American Psychological Association), and AMA (American Medical Association) formats.

7) Ensure overall consistency within manuscripts, including text structure, reference formatting, style, tone, and adherence to relevant guidelines.

8) Meet all deadlines and ensure timely completion of the copyediting process.

9) Demonstrated experience in copyediting scientific, technical, and medical books and journals.

10) Strong proficiency in all aspects of copyediting and technical editing, such as type coding manuscript elements, reference editing and validation, handling numbers and units, and ensuring consistency in style, spelling, hyphenation, and language.

11) Ability to manage both book and journal editing tasks efficiently.

Preferred candidate profile

1. A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Applied Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a technical editor, with expertise in working across various style guides such as APA, AMA, Chicago, and Harvard.
3. In-depth understanding of technical concepts and the ability to apply them accurately in editing scientific, technical, and medical content.
4. Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills, with an eye for clarity, structure, and overall readability.
5. High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in every aspect of editing, from formatting to citation validation.
6. Immediate joiners will be preferred.
