Job Description: Power Electronics Firmware Senior Specialist Position: Senior Specialist Power Electronics FirmwareExperience: 1012 YearsLocation: (Specify)Department: R&D / Product EngineeringEmployment Type: Full-time Role OverviewThe Senior Specialist Power Electronics Firmware will lead the design, development, and optimization of embedded control firmware for advanced power electronic converters and UPS systems. This role requires deep expertise in closed-loop control algorithms, real-time embedded development, multilevel & interleaved PWM techniques, and load-sharing/paralleling control strategies. The candidate will work closely with hardware, system engineering, and validation teams to deliver high-performance, reliable, and certified power products. Key Responsibilities 1. Firmware Development & Control Algorithms Design and implement real-time embedded control firmware for power converters (DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC, 3-level NPC, interleaved converters, UPS inverters). Develop advanced closed-loop control algorithms: - PI/PR controllers - dq-frame control - current/voltage loop control - grid-tie and standalone inverter control - droop control - nonlinear/observer-based controls (as needed)¢ Implement digital PWM, dead-time control, PLL, current balancing, and modulation schemes (SPWM, SVPWM, 3-level modulation, interleaved PWM).¢ Develop and optimize firmware for DSP/MCU platforms (TI C2000 preferred). 2. Paralleling & Load Sharing¢ Lead the development of paralleling algorithms for multi-converter and UPS systems (N+1 redundant, hot-sync, load-share control).¢ Implement communication-based and droop-based load-sharing control loops.¢ Ensure system stability during synchronization, phase alignment, current sharing, and transient events.¢ Troubleshoot dynamic instability, oscillations, harmonics, and cross-current issues in paralleled systems. 3. Architecture, Design & Documentation¢ Define firmware architecture, state machines, safety routines, and diagnostic strategies.¢ Develop detailed design documentation, test plans, and release notes.¢ Ensure compliance with quality processes (MISRA-C, IEC/UL, documentation standards). 4. System Integration & Validation¢ Work closely with hardware teams to optimize sensor interfaces, protection circuits, and control bandwidth.¢ Conduct lab testing of converters/UPS systems, tuning control loops, and managing EMI/thermal/efficiency trade-offs.¢ Perform root-cause analysis and debug failures at system, firmware, and hardware levels. 5. Leadership & Collaboration¢ Mentor junior engineers in embedded development and control theory.¢ Work cross-functionally with hardware, mechanical, compliance, and product teams.¢ Drive innovation in converter topologies, control techniques, and software processes. Required Skills & Expertise Technical Expertise¢ Strong hands-on experience (1012 years) in embedded firmware for power electronics.¢ Deep understanding of closed-loop control of converters/inverters (dc-link control, current/voltage loops, PLL, PR, droop, dq-control).¢ Expertise in paralleling of converters/UPS including sync control, load sharing, circulating current minimization.¢ Strong experience with TI C2000 family (F280x, F2837x, F28004x, F2838x or similar).¢ Proficiency in C/C++, fixed-point arithmetic, real-time firmware optimization.¢ Experience with control design tools: MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, PLECS.¢ Knowledge of common topologies: interleaved converters, 3-level NPC, full-bridge inverters, LLC/DC-DC.¢ Experience with communication interfaces: CAN, RS485, SPI, I2C, Modbus. Preferred Additional Skills¢ Experience with FPGAs or fast control loops on MCUs.¢ Exposure to EMI/EMC compliance, safety standards, and grid-connect requirements.¢ Knowledge of grid codes (IEC 62040, IEC 62109, IEEE 1547) is a plus.¢ Understanding of reliability engineering and protection mechanisms. Educational Qualifications¢ B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Embedded Systems, or related field.
