Job Summary:

• The incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage the pickling operations within the pipe manufacturing plant, ensuring optimal performance, safety, environmental compliance, and high-quality surface preparation of pipes. The Pickling Manager will oversee the pickling team, manage process parameters, chemical usage, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless production flow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor pickling lines for seamless/welded stainless steel pipes and tubes.
• Ensure correct acid concentrations, temperature, and immersion time for effective descaling.
• Maintain process parameters based on pipe grades, sizes, and specifications.
• Ensure surface finish quality meets production and customer standards post-pickling.
• Inspect for under-pickling, over-pickling, or pitting and take corrective actions as necessary.
• Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspections and rework where applicable.
• Monitor and control acid tank levels, concentrations, and replenishment cycles.
• Coordinate with the chemical handling team for safe loading/unloading of acids and neutralizers.
• Ensure timely regeneration or disposal of spent acid as per SOPs and environmental guidelines.
• Supervise the operation and maintenance of pickling tanks, rinsing stations, fume extractors, and pumps.
• Enforce strict safety measures in handling hazardous chemicals (HCl, HNO, HF, etc.).
• Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment (PPE, ventilation, eyewash stations, etc.).
• Maintain records of process parameters, acid consumption, waste generation, and maintenance activities.
• Prepare daily reports on pickling output, quality issues, and downtime.
• Work closely with upstream (production) and downstream (finishing/QA) departments for seamless workflow.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to process efficiency, waste reduction, and cost savings.
• Strong understanding of pickling and passivation processes in stainless steel manufacturing.
• Knowledge of stain-less steel grades (300/400 series) and their chemical treatment behaviour.
• Familiarity with acid handling protocols, chemical safety, and effluent treatment.
• Basic knowledge of NDT, mechanical cleaning, and finishing operations.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office and production reporting tools.
• Prior experience in stainless steel seamless or welded pipe manufacturing industry.
• Exposure to ISO, PED, and other quality/environmental management systems.
