A Phonics Trainer is responsible for teaching learners the foundational skills required to decode, read, and pronounce words accurately using systematic phonics instruction. The role focuses on building literacy through explicit teaching of lettersound relationships, blending, segmenting, and fluency development. Phonics Trainers may work with early learners, struggling readers, ESL students, or adults requiring literacy support. Key Responsibilities
Deliver structured phonics lessons using approved phonics programs or instructional frameworks (e.g., Jolly Phonics, Synthetic Phonics, Orton-Gillingham).
Teach letter–sound correspondences, blending, segmenting, and decoding skills.
Support learners in developing accuracy, reading fluency, and confidence.
Create engaging phonics activities, games, and practice materials.
Assess learners’ reading levels and track progress through formative and summative assessments.
Provide targeted interventions for learners struggling with phonemic awareness or decoding.
Maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, or supervisors regarding learners’ progress.
Integrate digital tools, manipulatives, and multisensory techniques to reinforce learning.
Participate in training sessions and stay updated on evidence-based literacy practices.
