Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure & CI/CD Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will take ownership of on-premise infrastructure management while also driving our transition towards hybrid and cloud-based systems. This role involves managing servers, automating infrastructure, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and overseeing migrations of source control and build systems to modern platforms.
This is a critical role that directly supports our engineering teams, ensuring reliable infrastructure, optimized builds, and scalable systems for future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Premise Infrastructure (Primary Focus)
-
Perform regular server health checks, monitoring resource usage, hardware status, and performance metrics.
-
Handle OS deployments, version upgrades, and lead proof-of-concepts (POCs) for migration to new versions.
-
Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot project-specific lab servers and staging environments.
-
Manage new hardware/software installations and commissioning for on-premise infrastructure.
-
Implement and monitor infrastructure redundancy, backup strategies, and failover systems to ensure high availability.
-
Maintain automation racks, ensuring they are reliable and meet engineering requirements for validation or test automation.
-
Collaborate with engineering teams to address signalling-related infrastructure needs, solving daily operational challenges quickly and efficiently.
-
Conduct regular upgrades and patching, applying best practices for security, compliance, and uptime.
-
CI/CD Systems & Source Control Migrations
-
Manage and upgrade Jenkins infrastructure (including on-premise and cloud-hosted instances), including plugin updates, performance tuning, and vulnerability patching.
-
Lead the migration of Jenkins jobs to GitLab CI/CD, improving maintainability, versioning, and collaboration.
-
Oversee the transition of on-premise Git repositories to a centralized, company-governed GitLab.
Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure (Secondary but Expanding Focus)
-
Contribute to the migration of eligible on-premise build infrastructure to AWS, focusing on cost optimization, reliability, and scalability.
-
Design and implement hybrid infrastructure that bridges on-premise systems with cloud-hosted services securely and efficiently.
-
Manage and maintain cloud-based Jenkins servers, ensuring they are patched, backed up, and integrated with cloud services.
-
Manage AWS-based build servers, including provisioning, system updates, monitoring, and backups.
-
Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices for cloud resources using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
-
Monitor cloud resource utilization, assist with cost management, and suggest optimizations where appropriate.
- Ensure cloud infrastructure follows security and compliance best practices, especially during and after migration activities.
Skills & Qualifications
-
Proficiency in Linux system administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
-
Hands-on experience with Jenkins administration and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Familiarity with Git and GitLab administration/migrations.
-
Experience with server virtualization and automation frameworks.
-
Knowledge of backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies.
-
Exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.).
-
Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
-
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams.
