Job Description

Role & responsibilities

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for carrying out fitness to work activities in accordance with WOOD fitness to work procedure and client requirements. This includes arranging and coordinating pre-employment medicals, ensuring the required medical criteria and test are completed as per roles and contract specifications and legal requirement, and conducting medical recalls, return to work assessments and health monitoring in a timely manner. The role also involves maintaining accurate health records, flagging pre-exiting conditions to the Senior Occupational Health advisor for further evaluation and support as required. The candidate will support wellbeing campaigns and medical emergency response as required.

Medical and Fitness Assessments

  • Coordinate and manage Fit-to-Work (FTW) medical assessments, including pre-employment, periodic renewal, and return-to-work evaluations for local and expatriate staff.
  • Review and evaluate fitness medical reports, providing appropriate occupational health recommendations in line with company standards.
  • Oversee the full FTW assessment process, ensuring timely completion and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct due diligence audits of medical facilities performing FTW evaluations to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on travel health requirements for business travelers and international assignees based on destination-specific medical standards.
  • Plan and implement fitness monitoring and health surveillance programs, including health screenings, drug and alcohol testing, immunizations, and vision and hearing assessments.
  • Consult with the Occupational Health Advisor on cases involving fitness concerns or requiring escalation and additional evaluation.

Clinical and Case Management

  • Organize follow-up medical assessments and support rehabilitation and return-to-work planning for employees with medical restrictions.
  • Administer first aid and emergency care for occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Communicate medical fitness outcomes, restrictions, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Provide support and monitor employees with preexisting conditions, ensuring appropriate follow-up and care coordination.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation (e.g., OSHA), company health standards, and data protection regulations (GDPR, Data Protection Act).
  • Verify continuous adherence to company Fit-to-Work standards and occupational health protocols.
  • Participate in internal and external audits of medical systems, records, and programs, recommending and implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable occupational health regulations, standards, and industry best practices.

Medical Data and Record Management

  • Maintain secure, accurate, and confidential medical records (both paper-based and electronic).
  • Manage and update the electronic medical record (EMR) system to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accessibility.
  • Prepare and submit required health data reports, performance metrics, and program evaluation summaries.
  • Document outcomes of health surveillance programs and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date health database reflecting employee FTW and medical fitness status.

Coordination and Communication

  • Act as a key communication link between employees, management, and healthcare providers while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local and international medical providers, developing a reliable network of approved clinics.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external service providers to ensure seamless delivery of occupational health services.
  • Provide operational support and coverage in the absence of team members to ensure business continuity.
  • Support the implementation of the companys Emergency Response Plan and medical preparedness initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret occupational health data to inform strategy and support continuous improvement efforts.

Health and Wellness Promotion

  • Promote employee health, well-being, and workplace safety through proactive programs and education.
  • Design and deliver health education, awareness sessions, and wellness campaigns on topics such as ergonomics, nutrition, exercise, and stress management.
  • Lead health screenings, fitness challenges, and preventive health initiatives tailored to organizational needs.
  • Participate in health risk assessments, implementing preventive strategies to minimize workplace health concerns.
  • Collaborate with HSSE, P&O, and the Occupational Health Advisor to implement comprehensive wellness and preventive health programs.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualifications:

  • Degree or post graduate degree in nursing with current registration and licensure from the relevant national regulatory board.
  • Additional post-qualification experience or certification in Occupational Health Nursing or a related discipline.

Knowledge,

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in offshore/onshore oil and gas and occupational health field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and case management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems while ensuring compliance with data protection standards.
  • Skilled in IT applications, including office productivity tools and health reporting systems.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail, discretion, and confidentiality.
