Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mid-Level Methods Engineer to support manufacturing operations in the Aerospace or Oil & Gas sectors. This position involves working closely with cross-functional teams to develop, optimize, and implement efficient manufacturing methods and processes for high-precision components. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either aerospace or oil & gas manufacturing, with experience in process development, cost optimization, and ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities for Both Industries:

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes and methods for complex components and systems, ensuring alignment with design and performance specifications.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical documentation to define efficient manufacturing steps, tooling, and resources.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documents, including:
  • Process plans
  • Work instructions
  • BOMs (Bill of Materials)
  • Operation sheets
  • Tooling and fixture specifications
  • Support process design and equipment selection to ensure manufacturability and productivity in line with safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, quality assurance, and production staff, to ensure successful execution of manufacturing projects.
  • Conduct process optimization activities, including value stream mapping, time studies, and lean manufacturing principles to reduce cycle time and enhance efficiency.
  • Implement process controls and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for process or product issues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of product quality, operational efficiency, and cost reduction initiatives.

Aerospace:

  • Ensure compliance quality standards and certifications in all processes.
  • Support the creation of First Article Inspections (FAI) in line with requirements.
  • Familiarity with aerospace materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, aluminum alloys) and machining processes for components such as turbine blades, airframes, or structural parts.
  • Work closely with the production team to maintain and improve the aerospace manufacturing workflow, ensuring tight tolerances, high surface finish, and safety standards.

Oil & Gas:

  • Develop methods for manufacturing oil and gas components, including drill bits, valves, pumps, and pressure vessels.
  • Ensure compliance with API (American Petroleum Institute) standards and industry-specific certifications for manufacturing processes.
  • Work with high-strength alloys, corrosion-resistant materials, and welding processes, ensuring adherence to industry-specific requirements.
  • Provide technical support for the assembly and testing of critical components used in upstream and downstream oil & gas operations.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field. (Diploma with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.)

Experience:

• 35 years of experience in a Methods Engineering role, preferably in Aerospace or Oil & Gas manufacturing.

• Experience with process design, optimization, and working with CAD or CAM systems.

• Familiarity with industry-specific standards and certifications such as AS9100, AS9102 (FAI), NADCAP (Aerospace), or API (Oil & Gas).

• Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is highly advantageous.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and manufacturing drawings.

• Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, AutoCAD).

• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).

• Ability to design, modify, and implement tooling and fixturing solutions.

• Solid experience in root cause analysis, process troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

• Understanding of material selection and manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, welding, heat treatment, forging).

Soft Skills:

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

• Detail-oriented and capable of handling complex manufacturing challenges.

• Adaptability and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Proactive in identifying potential risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
