Job
Description
You will be responsible for designing electrical distribution systems for buildings and facilities, including calculating electrical loads and selecting appropriate equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and panels. Your role will also involve designing lighting systems with the right illumination levels and energy efficiency, as well as developing layouts for power, lighting, emergency power, and special systems. Additionally, you will create single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and riser diagrams. In terms of technical documentation, you will prepare detailed electrical drawings and specifications, conduct load calculations, and voltage drop analyses. You will also be responsible for creating short circuit studies, coordination studies, and documenting emergency and standby power system requirements. Furthermore, you will prepare operation and maintenance manuals for electrical systems and generate as-built documentation reflecting final installation conditions. Ensuring code compliance and standards adherence will be a key aspect of your role. This includes making sure designs meet National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, local building codes, and regulations. You will also apply industry standards such as IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, and UL, and design systems in accordance with energy codes like ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC. Implementing life safety requirements for emergency lighting and power, as well as addressing ADA requirements for electrical installations, will also be part of your responsibilities. Your role will involve coordinating electrical systems with architectural and structural elements, interfacing with mechanical engineers for HVAC power requirements, and collaborating with plumbing engineers on water heating and pump systems. Additionally, you will coordinate with fire protection systems for alarm and monitoring, integrate building automation systems with electrical controls, and resolve spatial conflicts through BIM coordination. Providing construction support will also be a key part of your responsibilities. This includes reviewing contractor submittals and shop drawings, conducting site visits to verify installation compliance with design, and responding to RFIs while providing technical clarifications. You will also perform inspections at critical installation milestones, witness testing and commissioning of electrical systems, and troubleshoot field issues during construction. Furthermore, you will be involved in designing specialized systems such as power conditioning and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, lightning protection and grounding systems, telecommunications and data infrastructure designs, security systems including access control and CCTV, and distributed energy resources like solar PV and generators. Implementing smart building technologies and IoT infrastructure will also be part of your responsibilities. As part of project management, you will estimate project costs, develop electrical budgets, create work schedules, and track design progress. You will coordinate with clients to understand their electrical requirements, manage client expectations, and communicate technical information effectively. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals and ensuring quality control of electrical design deliverables will also be essential aspects of your role.,
