Medical Record Technician

Role & responsibilities

• Manage patient records:

  Create, update, and maintain patient records using EHR systems and other health information management software. This includes medical histories, diagnostic results, and treatment plans.

• Code and classify data:

  Use standard healthcare coding systems to classify medical information, such as diagnoses and procedures.

• Ensure accuracy and completeness:

  Review patient records for accuracy and completeness, and perform quality checks to ensure they meet organizational and regulatory standards.

• Maintain confidentiality:

  Adhere to all confidentiality rules and procedures, including HIPAA guidelines, to protect patient information.

• Provide information support:

  Retrieve and provide medical information to healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other authorized parties.

• Process documents:

  Organize and file patient charts and other data, both physical and digital. This may include scanning documents and performing quality checks on digitized records.

• Collaborate with staff:

  Work with physicians and other medical staff to clarify information and improve record-keeping processes.

• Assist with billing:

  Support billing and reimbursement processes by ensuring medical data is accurate and up-to-date.

Required skills

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and standard coding systems.
• Understanding of health information management principles and regulations.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
