A BIM (Building Information Modeling) Coordinator plays a crucial role in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. They are responsible for managing and facilitating the use of BIM technology and processes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring seamless coordination and information exchange among all stakeholders. BIM Coordinator Job Description Job Summary: The Mechanical BIM Coordinator is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all Building Information Modeling (BIM) activities specifically related to the Mechanical (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection) systems on construction projects. This role ensures the accurate creation, integration, and coordination of mechanical BIM models, facilitating seamless collaboration with other disciplines and stakeholders to minimize clashes, optimize design, and improve construction efficiency. The Mechanical BIM Coordinator acts as the primary point of contact for mechanical BIM-related issues and supports the project team in leveraging BIM for design, fabrication, and installation. Key Responsibilities: BIM Execution Planning & Standards: Develop, implement, and enforce BIM execution plans (BEP) and project-specific BIM standards, protocols, and workflows. Ensure all project participants adhere to established BIM guidelines and data requirements. Conduct regular BIM audits and quality control checks to ensure model accuracy, integrity, and compliance with project specifications. Model Management & Coordination: Manage and maintain the projects central BIM models, ensuring their compatibility and integration across different disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, etc.). Perform regular clash detection using BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Navisworks) to identify and resolve design conflicts and issues proactively. Lead and facilitate BIM coordination meetings with project teams to review models, discuss issues, and coordinate solutions. Oversee the technical management of subcontractor models and data exchanges. Data Management & Deliverables: Ensure all project data is accurate, compliant with industry and company standards, and readily accessible to relevant parties. Manage and update BIM project documents, including model logs, clash reports, and RFIs (Requests for Information). Prepare and manage digital construction models for various purposes, including 3D visualization, 4D scheduling (time), and 5D cost estimation. Extract quantities and other relevant data from BIM models as needed. Training & Support: Provide training and ongoing support to project team members on BIM software, processes, and best practices. Troubleshoot BIM-related technical issues and provide solutions. Stay updated with the latest BIM technologies, software advancements, and industry trends. Collaboration & Communication: Foster strong communication and collaboration among architects, engineers, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders. Act as a liaison between different disciplines to ensure a unified approach to BIM implementation. Present designs and model insights to various stakeholders and incorporate feedback for problem resolution. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree in some cases. Experience: 8 -10 years in a mechanical BIM Coordinator, BIM Modeler, or similar role within the AEC industry. Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating BIM projects from design through construction. Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard BIM software, including but not limited to: Autodesk Revit (MEP) Autodesk Navisworks Manage (for clash detection and coordination) AutoCAD Familiarity with Common Data Environments (CDEs) and data exchange protocols (e.g., IFC). Knowledge of basic construction processes, procedures, and building codes. Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with personnel at all organizational levels. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Proactive, with a strong initiative and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications (may vary based on company and project type): Professional certifications in BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit). Experience with 4D scheduling (e.g., Primavera P6 integration with BIM). Experience with 5D cost estimation tools. Knowledge of relevant industry standards Experience in a specific discipline (e.g., MEP BIM Coordination).
