The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organizations financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, and Valuation Review.

Department Overview:

The Market Risk Data Quality Controller Group is responsible for a series of controls designed to help ensure the completeness and accuracy of firm risk data used within the firms Market Risk Capital calculations (e.g. Value at Risk calculation) and preparedness for upcoming marker risk regulations across all entities and regulatory regimes. Given this broad remit, Market Risk Controllers work closely with a wide range of clients and stakeholders globally across Product Controllers, the Market Risk Department, Regulatory Controllers, Accounting policy and the Business Unit. This breadth of interaction provides an excellent and somewhat unique opportunity to learn about a range of businesses and products across the firm. Market Risk Controllers have footprint in Glasgow and New York.

The core function of Market Risk controller:

Capital Indicator assurance (Banking Trading Boundary): This team executes a series of control processes designed to ensure that firm activity is classified correctly for capital purposes. The parameters of this process are based upon regulatory requirements. Core responsibilities are to review the capital banking / trading indicators assigned to firm activity to ensure the firms Market Risk Capital calculations are based upon the correct population of firm activity. In addition the team facilitates the overall governance structure for capital indicators and is pivotal in designing and delivering a range of training and reference material to stakeholders (primarily Product Controllers) to help them assign capital indicators appropriately. Key clients are the Market Risk Department, Regulatory controllers, Accounting policy and the Credit Department.

We are looking to hire an Director to fill an opening that has recently developed. This is an exciting opportunity which will offer the successful candidate a unique insight into many of Morgan Stanleys key businesses, products and more widely the market risk regulatory framework. This is a demanding, fast paced role requiring interaction with various teams/functions/clients globally and will combine elements of BAU control and reporting as well as project work.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Lead a team of professionals while being responsible for all BAU and project deliverables.
  2. Generate accurate & timely control reports for senior clients on daily/weekly basis.
  3. Prepare and maintain weekly/monthly risk metrics
  4. Partner with IT and other groups to facilitate resolution of issues
  5. Interpret policies and advise clients on banking trading boundary indicators.
  6. Partner with team to establish control and governance process around new FRTB regulations around banking trading boundary.
  7. Ensuring that assigned projects are delivered on time and any issues escalated proactively.
  8. Work with wider team/other teams on new regulations / policies impacting firms market risk capital requirements.
  9. Develop and maintain relationships with a range of clients/stakeholders including GPC, Regulatory Controllers, Business Unit, Risk Management.
  10. Develop an understanding of the various products and businesses for which we provide support.
  11. Partner with wider MRC team both locally and globally on cross silo initiatives/projects
  12. Maintain functional policies and procedures
  13. Appropriately escalate risk issues to local management
  14. Provide ad-hoc analytical support to clients (BU/Audits etc)
  15. Understanding of Alteryx, Power BI and VBA will be an added advantage.

Skills Required:

  1. Master's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting (or equivalent experience) / CA
  2. 7 Plus Years of Experience in financial services preferably in peer banks, big 4 or financial consulting firms.
  3. Good understanding of financial markets and products within an investment bank like derivatives, bonds, Loans, Equities etc including business level understanding of securities as well as wealth management business.
  4. Understanding of Basel Norms and upcoming market risk rules like FRTB, including understanding of Market Risk, VaR, Greeks and other related concepts.
  5. Strong communication skills with ability to connect and coordinate with various groups and stakeholders across different regional locations.
  6. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple streams of work concurrently in a flexible, fast paced environment
  7. Must be detail oriented, highly responsible and able to work with tight deadlines
  8. Ability to understand business drivers and requirements and influence partners to deliver solutions to business issues and problems
