Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welding Quality Assurance & Control

    :
    • Develop, implement, and maintain welding quality control procedures and welding inspection plans to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.
    • Review welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualifications (PQR), and welder qualifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
    • Perform inspections and oversee welding operations to ensure welding processes are performed correctly and meet specified requirements.
    • Ensure the proper selection of welding materials, including consumables, electrodes, and filler materials.

2. Welding Inspections

    • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welded joints and other fabricated components to verify conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
    • Perform or supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), dye penetrant testing (PT), or magnetic particle testing (MT) on welded joints to detect defects.
    • Identify welding defects such as cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, and undercut, and determine corrective actions.
    • Monitor the welding process to ensure it is being performed in accordance with the welding procedure specifications (WPS) and approved codes.

3. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of welding inspections, tests, and qualifications.
    • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including findings, corrective actions, and recommendations for improving welding practices.
    • Document and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) related to welding defects and ensure proper corrective actions are taken.
    • Ensure welding inspection records, welder qualifications, and other quality documentation are maintained in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.

4. Collaboration and Coordination

    • Work closely with welding teams, engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure proper welding techniques are employed and quality standards are maintained.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure that welding consumables, equipment, and materials meet project specifications and quality standards.
    • Provide technical support and guidance on welding techniques and issues encountered during the project lifecycle.
    • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to report on welding progress, issues, and resolutions.

5. Continuous Improvement

    • Recommend improvements to welding procedures, processes, and equipment to enhance quality, reduce defects, and increase efficiency.
    • Stay current with new welding technologies, industry trends, and changes to welding codes and standards.
    • Participate in continuous improvement programs aimed at increasing the overall quality of welding operations.

6. Health, Safety, and Compliance:

    • Ensure all welding activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Promote and enforce safety standards during welding activities to minimize risks of accidents, fires, or exposure to hazardous materials.
    • Conduct safety audits and ensure that welding procedures and practices meet safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a QA QC Welding Engineer or in a similar role in the construction, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, ISO, API), and standards for various materials (e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminum).
  • Certification in welding inspection (e.g., CWI - Certified Welding Inspector, CSWIP - Certified Welding Specialist, or equivalent).
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as RT, UT, PT, and MT.
  • Proficiency in using welding inspection tools and equipment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear reports and documentation.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with welding design and procedure qualifications (WPS/PQR).
  • Familiarity with welding metallurgy and heat treatment processes.
  • Understanding of welding-related software for inspection management and reporting.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools.
  • Experience working in offshore, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
