Job Description

Role & responsibilities Operate the Basic Oxygen Furnace to convert molten iron into steel through the injection of oxygen and other additives. Monitor and control the oxygen flow, temperature, and chemical composition to ensure the desired steel quality. Ensure that raw materials (scrap metal, molten iron, etc.) are loaded into the furnace correctly and in proper proportions. Maintain and inspect BOF equipment, including the furnace, slag removers, and oxygen lance, to ensure proper functioning. Perform quality checks to ensure steel meets the required specifications for strength, composition, and cleanliness. Follow safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents, including using proper PPE (personal protective equipment). Work closely with other operators, maintenance personnel, and quality control teams to ensure smooth operations. Identify and troubleshoot any issues with the BOF process, such as temperature deviations, equipment malfunctions, or material inconsistencies. Monitor and record production data, including temperature, oxygen consumption, steel quality, and operational parameters. Participate in the cleanup process by removing slag and other by-products from the furnace. Adhere to environmental regulations by managing waste and emissions from the BOF operation. Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule and conduct preventive maintenance on the furnace and related equipment. Assist in the training of new operators and provide feedback on operational performance.
