Job Description

You are invited to join our dynamic LifeLab team as a Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Fellow. In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to lead the development and delivery of our innovative NxtGen Researcher Programme and contribute to the establishment of the NxtGen Researcher Academy. Your main responsibility will be to engage with young people in health research, utilizing your expertise in science communication, public engagement, and pedagogy. By working closely with young individuals, schools, and community stakeholders, you will play a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of researchers and fostering sustainable partnerships within the education and health sectors. This position will be primarily based at LifeLab at the University Hospital Southampton, with opportunities for hybrid working. You may also be required to work at Southampton Science Park and UoS Highfield campus as needed. LifeLab is committed to engaging children and young people in understanding the science behind health messages. Through our program, we aim to help young individuals reflect on how their lifestyle choices can impact their health currently, in the future, and potentially on future generations. Key Responsibilities: - Lead the development and delivery of the NxtGen Researcher Programme and establish the NxtGen Researcher Academy - Utilize pedagogical best practices to engage young people in research activities and promote independent learning and critical thinking skills - Recruit and form cohorts of young individuals to participate in the NxtGen Researchers programme - Establish strong relationships with schools, local authorities, and third sector organizations focused on youth, education, and public health - Contribute to evaluation activities and assess the impact of the NxtGen programme - Prepare reports and materials for young people, stakeholders, and funders Required Skills: - Master's degree, postgraduate qualification, or PhD in a relevant subject area, or equivalent work experience and training - Substantial knowledge and experience in working with young individuals for educational and engagement purposes - Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) or significant experience in a teaching role with young people - Experience in conducting research at the postgraduate level and presenting research outcomes - Excellent communication and engagement skills with the ability to work with diverse audiences - Understanding of Health & Safety issues when working with young individuals, including Safeguarding - Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve team objectives - Experience in organizing and conducting activities with young people Please note that this position requires an enhanced DBS clearance.
