Knitting Machine Operator

• Machine setup: Prepare machines by loading yarn cones, threading yarn through guides, and setting stitch and tension controls according to production specifications.
• Operation: Start and monitor the knitting machines, making adjustments as needed to ensure smooth operation and to meet production goals.
• Quality control: Inspect finished and in-progress fabric for defects, such as holes, snags, or incorrect patterns.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and correct yarn-related faults or errors in the knitting process.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and oiling of the machines to keep them in good working condition.
• Material handling: Replace empty yarn cones with full ones and join yarn ends as needed.
• Post-production: Remove completed products, such as hosiery, from the machine, and perform tasks like clipping loose threads or bundling items.

Required skills and qualifications

• Technical skills: Ability to operate and troubleshoot knitting machines, with knowledge of knit structures and fabric properties.
• Attention to detail: Keen eye for spotting defects and ensuring precision in the final product.
• Mechanical aptitude: Basic knowledge of machine repair and the ability to perform routine maintenance.
• Manual dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and motor skills for tasks like threading yarn and making adjustments.
• Problem-solving: Ability to identify operating errors and develop solutions.
• Teamwork: Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with others in a production environment.
• Physical fitness: Stamina to operate machines over long shifts and lift materials.
• Education: Vocational training in textile technology or knitting is often preferred, but experience can substitute for formal education.
