Junior Resident

1. To provide medical cover, routine and emergency, during hours of duty and work in conjunction with the other RMO to provide a 24 hour service to the hospital.

2. To clerk in and assess urgent admissions as required when the relevant consultant is not immediately available.

3. To arrange investigations, and discharge as directed by the Consultant.

4. To undertake a morning and evening ward round daily and if possible with a member of the nursing staff when available ensuring patients are visited where appropriate. To make an entry in the patients notes as appropriate following ward rounds or any other patient examinations, communication or procedures.

5. To receive a hand-over report on patients from the alternative RMO when commencing duty and to attend the ward areas in both morning and evening to enable and establish consultant communication.

6. To communicate any medical problems or concerns to Consultants.

7. To undertake within their level of experience and competence certain medical procedures required by the Consultants.

8. To liaise with nursing staff regularly to check on patient progress, or more frequently if their condition necessitates. To see patients at the request of nurses in charge and carry out examinations of patients.

9. All patient information is confidential and must be respected as all times.

10. To certify deaths, complete death certificates and report unexpected deaths to the coroner and complete all relevant documentation.

11. To ensure that discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all such correspondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.

12. To ensure the completion of case sheets as required by NABH.

13. To be "on-call" or participate in shift rosters is a requirement of the position

14. To undertake emergency procedures as required (including resuscitation), taking the lead as necessary.

15. To attend meetings to discuss issues, incidents and accidents with Matron/Ward Manager.

16. You will be follow Patient Management Protocol as follows:-

• Must wear APRON with ID Card with the dress in accordance with the hospital settings.
• Clinical history – OPD assessment form to be filled within stipulated time in legible writing.
• IPD case sheets – History/Allergy/Diagnosis with complete details in legible writing.
• Investigations charts completion during course of admission (Date & Time duly mentioned with sign).
• Fill up Lab & Radiology/Blood bank requisitions date wise and Collect Reports.
• Signatures (With Name of Doctor (Specifically) Legible and Clear).Write properly instructions / orders by consultants Discharge cards should be always filled up completely with D.O.A., D.O.D. Proper Handing Over / Taking Over of Duties. Care Plan / Transfusion Notes shall be clearly mentioned in patients file.
• Medication Charts to be completely filled in legible writing (preferable CAPITAL letters).
• Inform critical values/Reference to Consultants without delay.
• Prescriptions to be written by Residents only before sending to Pharmacy.
• All case sheets must have date and time.
• Surgical dressings/Procedures (do and also assist).
• Must know how to interpret E.C.G. and do CPR.
• Discharge summary should be always made timely and without any delay
• Discharge cards should be always filled up completely with D.O.A., D.O.D.
• MLC to be filled properly.
• Death Summary & Certificates to be filled properly and on time.
• You must know how to do Ascetic Tap, Lumber Puncture, Pleural Tap, Put Ryele’s Tube, Foley’s Catheter and all other routine procedures (BLS/ACLS Knowledge).
• You must check the units of blood transfusion bags for all patients irrespectively of any specialty for all in Medical/ Surgical/ Radiation Oncology patients admitted and any other for verification.
• Always attend any emergency for any patient whether Medical/Surgical/Radiation/ Palliative Care immediately and inform Consultant and the concerned doctor.
