Overview

A Java Backend Developer with Data Engineering responsibilities is a hybrid role essential in organizations handling large-scale data solutions. The role merges core backend developmentusing Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architectureswith hands-on data engineering skills around ETL pipelines, big data processing, and cloud-based data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using Java (preferably Java 11+), Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
Architect and implement data processing pipelines integrating with RDBMS/NoSQL databases and big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
Create, maintain, and optimize database solutionswriting efficient SQL queries and handling data modeling.
Work with ETL processes, batch jobs, and streaming data for analytics and reporting.
Write reusable, scalable, and testable code; perform unit testing with JUnit/Mockito.
Collaborate with front-end engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
Deploy, monitor, and maintain cloud-based (AWS, Azure, GCP) applications; leverage CI/CD pipelines.
Ensure code and process quality through peer reviews, code management tools (e.g., Git), and static code analysis.
Document systems, processes, and contribute to design and architectural decisions.

Requirements

Strong proficiency in Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, REST APIs, and backend development best practices.
Hands-on experience with relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle) and/or NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra).
Experience with data engineering technologies: Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, Airflow, or similar tools.
Understanding of ETL concepts, batch processing, and real-time data streaming.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructures.
Working knowledge of CI/CD, version control (Git), and automated testing.
Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and OOPS concepts.
