Java Architect

As a Lead Architect at Optum, you will be responsible for the overall solution design and architecture of applications, focusing on enhancing the provider experience and transitioning it to a modernized platform. Your role will involve leading major application redesign initiatives, overseeing solution design, development, performance tuning, acceptance testing, and implementation. This is an exciting opportunity to drive change and contribute to the evolution of Optum's applications. **Primary Responsibilities:** - Provide hands-on technical leadership in application architecture and design - Apply advanced understanding of general systems concepts and their integration with business problem resolution - Ensure solutions are aligned with business and IT goals/objectives - Identify enhancements to improve supportability, operability, or performance of applications within the group and develop business cases for suggested improvements - Collaborate with business partners/product owners to grasp desired system functionality - Decompose new product capabilities for specific functional changes verification - Participate in design activities, monitor task completion, and oversee project progress - Prioritize, plan, and manage team activities independently - Review code, offer feedback on best practices, and suggest performance enhancements - Guide team members to boost productivity - Manage multiple projects concurrently - Establish achievable goals for team members and mentor them towards success - Ensure on-time, on-budget, and scope-compliant delivery of all project deliverables **Qualifications:** **Required:** - 10+ years of software engineering experience - 5+ years of Java environment experience - 1+ years of production experience with cloud technologies - Profound knowledge of systems development life cycle and/or operational maintenance environment - Strong organization and effective communication skills - Ability to troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment and provide necessary solutions - Experience in delivering software using Agile methodology **Preferred:** - Bachelor's degree - Proficiency in developing project cost and benefit estimates, including evaluating alternatives - Provide training and assistance on technical issues to the broader team - Experience with prototyping and performance tuning applications across multiple operating systems, languages, and computing platforms - Understanding of distributed architecture design principles - Experience in the healthcare industry - Familiarity with business rule engines - Experience with technologies such as streaming (e.g., Kafka), cloud platforms (e.g., OpenShift), databases (e.g., NoSQL, GraphDB), microservices architecture, and web development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular),
