Job Description

SECTION A: POSITION SUMMARY An experienced and knowledgeable leader with a proven track record of managing engineering teams within a matrix structure. You will be responsible for a team of approximately 8-20 engineers. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain top engineering talent. Define team objectives, best engineering practices, policies, and skill competencies. Ensure delivered solutions conform to agreed-upon principles and best practices, aligning with Chapter Area and Tribe Quarterly Business Review (QBR) strategic objectives. Establish, enhance, and execute the engineering vision for internal customers. Oversee recruitment, performance assessments, personal development of team members, and allocation of staffing needs across tribes and squads. Drive team member growth through continuous learning and development opportunities. Contribute to shaping the teams vision and guide work methodologies. Ideal Candidate Profile: Skilled in one or more relevant technologies to effectively support and mentor full stack engineers. It would be beneficial to be experienced in various areas of technology, with deep expertise in at least one (e.g., strong API experience with a solid understanding of web principles, or advanced JavaScript skills for frontend development). Proven experience in stakeholder management and effective communication with engineers, customers, and other stakeholders. Ability to deliver strategic solutions that enhance systems, optimize operations, and drive growth. Comfortable contributing to strategy and planning at both chapter and tribe level. SECTION B: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS 1.Responsible for guiding and fostering the growth of chapter members across the tribes.2.Uphold, implement, and contribute to engineering standards and practices.3.Establish close relationships with tribes, squads, and other stakeholders, utilizing empathy and strategic thinking to guide relevant parties toward well-engineered outcomes.4.Provide technical leadership and guidance to the chapter members by providing mentorship, conflict resolution, code review, and assistance with technical queries to ensure a positive and collaborative environment.5.Facilitate career progression and KPI creation, offering opportunities for learning and self- development for the chapter members.6.Participate in interviews, hiring, and recruitment decisions for the chapter.7.Conduct performance reviews of chapter members.8.Ensure a high level of engagement and enthusiasm within the chapter.9.Ensure chapter compliance with company and regulatory policies and guidelines.10.Promote the sharing of intellectual property among chapter members by providing opportunities for individuals to share challenges, knowledge, and document them.11.Maintain the domain knowledge & technical capability within the chapter to ensure business continuity.12.Effectively manage task-switching and work closely with the chapter members to provide optimal solutions to the organization across multiple squads.13.Collaborate with tribes and the software engineering practice leadership to define QBR strategy in support of the annual operating plan.14.Periodically track and report on agreed QBR goals and achievements, as well as chapter OKRs.15.Define sourcing strategy for the chapter across squads with tribe alignment.16.Exhibit excellent problem-solving and influencing skills to align stakeholders at the tribe level.17.Foster a culture of innovation and creativity within the team to drive continuous improvement and excellence.18.Prioritize alignment with company' values and promote a diverse and inclusive environment. SECTION C: MAJOR CHALLENGES / TYPICAL PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED 1.Recruit the best possible candidates while managing the costs2.Retain and grow the existing team in a competitive market.3.Enable craft development within the chapter across business units.4.Provide relevant knowledge on technologies or approaches when necessary.5.Process knowledge from multiple streams that Chapter members work on, and explore possibilities for optimization and smarter ways of working.6.Adapt to constantly changing work priorities in a reactive, agile environment.7.Maintain a sustainable pace within the chapter and beyond.8.Manage chapter OKRs and deliverables with minimal impact.9.Maintain close relationships with stakeholders beyond the tribe. CategoryEssential for this roleGood to have Education and Qualifications B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics and Mathematics, Information Systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.Industry certifications in web languages or tools, integration languages; and / or technical people leadership and coaching Work Experience 8+ years of industry experience including 2+ years in leadership roles. 5+ years of experience in integration or web application and/ or full stack development Prior working experience in telecommunications industry. Knowledge in web tools, integration capabilities Technical / Professional Skills Please provide at least 3 Strong analytical, creative, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Experience in managing teams working on complex products / solutions and capability development projects. Experience in supporting the architecting of solutions for optimal integration solutions or web products and other digital solutions Strong understanding of IT risk, information security fundamentals, defense-in-depth practices, IT risk assessment fundamentals and risk management practices Competent in Agile methodologies Understanding of DevOps practices, tools and cloud technologies Great awareness of information security and data privacy requirements. Hands-on, working knowledge of various web and or integration languages, tools and approaches Experience with a range of vendors, tools and languages, AEM, SFCC, React, MuleSoft etc. Prior experience of public speaking e.g. Tech Conference Non-Technical / Soft Skills Strong Leadership Excellent communication skills with experience of frequent communication with VP level and middle managers Demonstrated ability to forge collaborative relationships both within and outside the team and influence desired outcome Agile ambassador for cultural change and role model Customer focussed Results orientated, and strongly motivated leader with good negotiation skills Proficient stakeholder management skills Proven ability to work under pressure.
