Position Overview
The Baseband Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating, tracking, and supporting all activities related to the upgrade, integration, and deployment of baseband equipment within the network. This role requires strong communication, scheduling, documentation, and cross-functional coordination skills to ensure project milestones are delivered on time with high quality.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Coordinate end-to-end baseband upgrade and integration activities across markets.
- Manage project schedules, timelines, and deliverables for assigned sites.
- Track site readiness, material delivery, integration schedules, and closeout requirements.
Cross-Functional Communication
- Serve as a point of contact between field teams, RF engineers, construction managers, vendors, and the T-Mobile NOC/Integration teams.
- Facilitate daily/weekly calls to discuss project status, blockers, and priorities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project trackers, BOM lists, integration schedules, and upgrade logs.
- Ensure all documents (PORs, MOPs, EME, JX reports, COP, photos) are collected and submitted accurately.
- Prepare weekly status reports summarizing site progress, risks, and next actions.
Material & Logistics Support
- Coordinate the delivery and tracking of baseband equipment, cabling, and ancillary materials.
- Validate inventory levels and escalate shortages or mismatches.
- Support RMA and equipment returns when applicable.
Issue Resolution
- Identify project risks, site delays, and technical blockers and escalate to the appropriate teams.
- Work with integration engineers and field techs to resolve on-site issues during cutovers.
- Support troubleshooting with eNodeB/gNB hardware/software during upgrades.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 58 years of telecom/wireless project coordination or related experience.
- Understanding of mobile network infrastructure (BBUs, RRUs, fiber, power, 4G/5G technologies).
- Experience with T-Mobile tools/platforms (e.g., Magenta Site, TMO trackers, Atoll/Planet visibility preferred).
- Strong proficiency in Excel, project trackers, and communication tools.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work in fast-paced and cross-functional environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with T-Mobile modernization, 5G NR upgrades, or BBU swap programs.
- Familiarity with integration processes, commissioning, and ATP/closeout standards.
- Vendor coordination experience (NOKIA/ERICSSON/SAMSUNG markets).
