Position Overview:
We are looking for an
As an Indirect Tax Manager at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing. Responsibilities include keeping up with legislative and regulatory changes, timely submission of registrations and returns, coordinating tax payments, supporting with month end close, and assisting with ad-hoc projects. You will collaborate and work with professionals across various departments both internally and externally. This position reports to the Director, Indirect Tax.
What Youll Do:
- Take ownership and manage indirect tax compliance for multiple entities, which includes US sales and use tax, gross receipts, value added tax, goods and services tax, digital services tax, and other indirect taxes globally
- Review and ensure indirect taxes charged are accurate on both invoices issued by the company and received from vendors
- Prepare monthly source data used for indirect tax returns
- Prepare indirect tax returns in-house where applicable
- Review indirect tax returns that are prepared by junior staff or a third-party compliance provider where applicable
- Coordinate and ensure timely payments to the applicable tax authorities
- Assist in managing indirect tax recoverability and timely refunds
- Ensure all copies of the tax returns, working papers, and other relevant documents are stored in the applicable internal folder system
- Develop and maintain internal standard operating procedures for compliance processes
- Support the month-end close process by booking tax journal entries, performing variance analyses on account balances, and preparing account reconciliations
- Support customers in uploading tax exemption certificates to the database and review customers tax exemption certificates
- Assist with indirect tax cash forecasting
- Respond to indirect tax notices and inquiries from the tax authorities
- Keep up with various global legislative and regulatory updates related to indirect taxes in order to assess and communicate any potential impact
- Liaise with tax auditors and provide support for audits, which includes providing requested documentation and information and performing reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data prior to submitting it to the tax auditor
- Collaborate with various departments including Finance, Legal, Billing-Engineering, Data Analytics, Customer Support, Infrastructure Operations, Procurement
- Provide insights and recommendations related to process improvement and data automation
- Work cross-functionally to help assess tax implications of new product offerings and maintain the product taxability matrix by performing tax research and leveraging tax advisors as needed.
- Support in current and new business initiatives as applicable for indirect tax
- Manage, support, and develop tax junior staff
Key Metrics:
- Minimum 5 years indirect tax experience
- CPA preferred
- Masters degree in Taxation a plus
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Strong Alteryx and Excel skills

The salary range for this position is based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
