Job Title: IBDP Economics Teacher

Reports to:

Job Purpose

IB Diploma Programme (DP) Economics

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To teach IBDP Students and lead the Economics Department (As applicable)
  • Prepare daily and longer-term lesson plans in accordance with curriculum guidelines.
  • Providing assessment information, report grades and feedback for learning as required by the assessment and reporting schedule
  • To empower the students to prepare for international board assessments
  • Scheme of work and Unit plans to be designed as per your/collective understanding of the programme and should reflect the course expectations.
  • Contribute and share in the implementation of better teaching and learning methods which would benefit the students.
  • Identify the requirements of specific topic/knowledge areas and prepare relevant textual and visual resources for learning.
  • Maintain proof/evidence for all the activities mentioned in the Unit plans as per the topics-Photographs, feedback forms, reflections and so on, date wise.
  • Maintain records for the conduct of FA, SA or any other evaluation. Give feedback about the performance of the students to the respective HOD
  • To build strong foundation for any academic stream in the student's educational and professional career
  • To have core belief of concept clarity and diligent practice
  • To efficiently meet the modules such as Concept Builder, Knowledge Builder, Speed.
  • Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation.
  • Coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
  • Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum.
  • Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place in the school.
  • Use computers to assist with lesson preparation, teaching and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain good working habits and discipline in classrooms
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to students, ensuring effective learning outcomes.
  • Assess student progress through regular assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methods to improve student understanding of economic concepts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design curriculum materials and assess program effectiveness.
  • Provide individualized support to students who require extra help or have special needs.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in line with the IB Diploma Programme curriculum for Economics (HL and SL).
  • Develop units of inquiry aligned with IB philosophy, emphasizing international-mindedness, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary links.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies, resources, and technology to support diverse learning styles.
  • Provide formative and summative assessments that align with IB assessment criteria.
  • Support students in developing extended essays in Economics and provide TOK integration where applicable.

Curriculum & Academic Development

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and collaborative unit design within the department.
  • Stay updated with IB guidelines, curriculum changes, and best practices in Economics education.
  • Prepare students for internal and external IB assessments, ensuring strong performance outcomes.

Student Support & Guidance

  • Monitor and track student progress, providing timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Offer academic mentoring, university guidance support (where relevant), and extra help sessions.
  • Foster a positive classroom culture that encourages respect, curiosity, and resilience.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Engage in IB training and contribute to the schools IB authorization/evaluation process.
  • Maintain accurate student records and reports as per IB and school policies.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school (clubs, events, service activities, economics-related initiatives).

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Should have experience of teaching Economics to Secondary & Higher Secondary students of IBDP, ISC, AS&A Levels (or) CBSE.
  • Prefer teaching experience in Economics at Higher Secondary School or University level preferably in a multi-cultural or international context
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Prior experience teaching IB Diploma Programme Economics.
  • IB-certified workshop participation (Category 1/2 training).
  • Experience supervising Extended Essays.
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based and student-centered pedagogies.
  • Ability to contribute to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • Desire to join immediately at Coimbatore.
  • An enthusiastic and approachable nature

  • 5-10 years of experience as an Economics teacher (IBDP/IGCSE/Cambridge).
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics (B.A) + Master's degree (M.A) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of economics principles, theories, and practices at both microeconomic and macroeconomic levels.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • Bachelors degree in Economics or a related field.
  • Teaching qualification/license (e.g., B.Ed, PGCE, M.Ed, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 23 years of teaching experience (preferably in senior secondary/IB or A-levels).
  • Strong subject knowledge in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, and Development Economics.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
