Job Description:
The Hygiene and Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the entire food processing facility, including cold storage areas, to ensure compliance with food safety regulations such as FSSAI, HACCP, and BRC. The role involves supervising sanitation teams, implementing cleaning protocols, and monitoring hygiene practices to prevent contamination risks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hygiene & Sanitation Management:
Supervise and ensure proper cleaning and sanitisation of processing areas, equipment, floors, walls, and drains as per SOPs.
Maintain sanitation schedules and records for daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning.
Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals, tools, and PPE.
Monitor hygiene in cold rooms, chillers, and freezing tunnels.
2. Staff / Workers Supervision & Training:
Lead and guide the sanitation team, allocate work, and monitor performance.
Conduct regular training on personal hygiene, cleaning methods, and GMP.
Ensure all team members follow personal hygiene protocols (uniform, apron, gloves, etc.).
3. Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain cleaning and hygiene checklists and logs for audit purposes.
Coordinate with QA for internal and external hygiene inspections.
Assist in preparation for third-party and regulatory audits (BRC, FSSAI, etc.).
4. Pest Control Coordination:
Monitor effectiveness of pest control activities and maintain pest control records.
Report pest sightings and support corrective actions.
5. Waste & Water Management:
Oversee proper disposal of waste (organic, plastic, hazardous, etc.).
Ensure effluent and cleaning water do not contaminate processing areas.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate in Microbiology / Food Technology / Science OR Diploma in Sanitation & Hygiene Management.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the food processing industry (preferably frozen foods or cold storage).
- Knowledge of GMP, GHP, HACCP, FSSAI, and cleaning chemicals.
- Leadership skills and the ability to manage Contract Workers.
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a chilled/freezing environment (PPE will be provided).
