Job Description

Job Summary:

The HMC Setter is responsible for setting up and preparing Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs) for production operations according to machining programs, component drawings, and process plans. The role involves ensuring dimensional accuracy, machine efficiency, and adherence to quality standards throughout machining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs) as per job requirements, drawings, and CNC programs.
  • Load tools, fixtures, and workpieces; ensure proper alignment and zero setting.
  • Verify program correctness and perform trial runs before full-scale production.
  • Inspect the first-off component to confirm dimensional accuracy using measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, bore gauge, height gauge, etc.).
  • Make minor offset adjustments and ensure machining within specified tolerances.
  • Coordinate with the programmer and quality team for dimensional verification and problem resolution.
  • Ensure tool life monitoring and replace worn-out tools when required.
  • Follow process sheets, job cards, and quality plans strictly during production.
  • Maintain daily production and inspection records.
  • Ensure machine cleanliness, lubrication, and proper maintenance as per schedule.
  • Adhere to all safety and 5S standards on the shop floor.
  • Support continuous improvement, productivity enhancement, and waste reduction activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Tool & Die Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience as an HMC Setter in a machining or foundry-based industry.
  • Knowledge of Fanuc / Siemens / Mitsubishi CNC controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and gauges.
  • Familiarity with cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts preferred.
  • Good coordination and communication skills.
